KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Equities Research has raised the oil and gas player SapuraKencana Petroleum’s target price from RM6.75 to RM7, which is 75.4% above the last traded price of RM3.99.

It said on Tuesday the SapuraKencana made four gas discoveries at its 40%-owned SK408 field, capping a successful exploration campaign.

“Management presented earlier during Invest Malaysia, with the highlights being the burgeoning order book and operations in Brazil.

“Our target price rises as we now value the stock at 23.4 times CY15 price-to-earnings (P/E) (from 22.5 times), a 40% premium over our revised implied target market P/E of 16.7 times (from 16.1 times), but still within the historical P/E range of the oil & gas big caps.

“We maintain our Add rating, with a strong order book momentum as a potential catalyst. SapuraKencana remains our high conviction call and top pick among the oil & gas big caps,” it said.

CIMB Research said SapuraKencana has a 40% interest in SK408 with the balance split equally between Petronas Carigali and Shell.

“Although the exploration campaign at SK408 was known, we welcome the announcement of the gas discoveries. We understand that the first gas is likely to be hit in FY1/18, potentially giving the company a substantial earnings kicker and a significantly longer earnings visibility. The gas fields’ production could go up to 20 years compared with the oil fields’ production of seven to nine years,” it said.

CIMB Research said it was encouraged that SapuraKencana is aggressively capitalising on Petronas's and Petrobras's massive capex programmes and the potential growth offered by the sector in Malaysia and Brazil, which make up a respective 27% and 49% of the sector-beating RM25.8bil order book.

“SapuraKencana is the most dynamic company in our oil & gas portfolio given its transformative developments brought about by the asset acquisitions of Newfield and Seadrill, leading to a solid order book and earnings visibility,” said the research house.

Yes...in stock market when ppl earn money they announce big big...when ppl lose money nobody knows...shariah or not shariah we wouldn't know because it no longer depends on the technical fundamental of the stock...but if the Islamic funds sells there are sure to be some other non Islamic funds to buy...cheap sale right..why not...hold and keep calm...
