Received this email from my solar panel installer.. the potential upside to more demand for RE and/electricity, perhaps more home charging for RV in coming years with increase in demand. Looks positive too for Toyota and Proton. Spillover benefits to MBMR and UMW too!

‐----------------------------‐-------

Dear xxx,

If you have ever considered switching your car to one that runs on electricity, then the following would be interesting for you!

Did you know that Proton, our Malaysia's national carmaker, is targeting to launch its first EV in 2025? Toyota Malaysia also plans to follow suit and enter the electric space in the next few years. This is in line with our Government’s goal of having 1.5 million EVs on the road by 2040.

How it is going so far

The Electric Vehicle (EV) market in Malaysia is relatively small but growing rapidly. According to the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA), 2,717 EVs were sold in 2021, a significant increase from the 1,642 units sold in 2020. 💁🏻‍♀️🚘

EVs are also becoming more affordable. BYD, the vertically-integrated Chinese EV automaker (largest EV maker in the world) has entered the Malaysian market offering affordable EV options such as the Dolphin model and the popular SUV Atto 3 model.

Challenges and opportunities

Government can already see that demand for electric vehicles (EVs) will far outstrip that of internal combustion engine (ICE) cars within its 2023-2032 forecast period.

"We currently forecast total EV sales to quadruple in 2023."

The upfront cost of EVs are still higher than gasoline-powered cars in many cases. However, this cost is expected to come down over time as battery technology improves and economies of scale are achieved.

Another challenge is the availability of charging infrastructure. While we are estimated to have more than 1,200 charging stations in Malaysia, there is still room for improvement. Under the Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint, the Government plans to install 10,000 charging stations by 2025.

@chessgame99, just to share, if you know that starting next year, sale of all private share holdings will be subjected to capital gains tax ie companies like private limited, partnership, etc. I am pretty sure in future the government will also initiate tax on capital gains on public listed share equities as well. I think if someone with a sizable capital appreciation have to consider this point as well when planning for investment decisions. I have an idea in mind on what to do when the time comes but due to my reasons I will not publicly share what's my plan to deal with the issue when it comes. What I can say is that it would be wise to also consider the future possibilities to deal with this aspect as well

@Zhuge_Liang, not only that. If you read and believe in the book by Rhonda Bryne entitled 'The Secret' you will find that many things in our lives are a result of our actions. If you mix or are positive, you get positive energy and your life is bright. If you are negative or attract negative energy then your life won't be smooth and many hiccups maybe even failure. If one Is a nuisance in life or even in this forum, he or she will attract negative energy because cursed or hated by others. All negative energy will be part of said nuisances life. That's why one should even entertain toxic people in life or you'll attract their bad energy. This is my sincere opinion.

Revving up Maybank’s sustainability commitments
TheEdge Mon, Nov 06, 2023 10:00am - 1 hour

The progress made in just two years since Maybank unveiled its four headline sustainability commitments has seen the group revising two of the targets upwards - Maybank Chief Sustainability Officer, Shahril Azuar Jimin

By 2025, it aims to mobilise RM80 billion (up from RM50 billion) in sustainable finance and improve the lives of two million (up from one million) households in ASEAN.

Maybank Chief Sustainability Officer Shahril Azuar Jimin says the group has surpassed the halfway mark for these two commitments and the yearly targets for the remaining commitments, namely achieving a carbon-neutral position of its own emissions by 2030 and net-zero carbon equivalent position by 2050, and achieving one million hours per annum on sustainability and delivering 1,000 significant Sustainable Development Goal outcomes by 2025.

According to Shahril, the group has to date mobilised some RM49 billion in sustainable finance enabled by the rollout of the Sustainable Finance Framework (SPF), the first bank in Malaysia to do so. The SPF, which supports greater development of green, social and sustainable products, has elevated the group’s ability to mobilise sustainable finance, he says.

In 2022, more than 90% of non-retail mobilisation was contributed by home markets, says Shahril, adding that 39% of the loan proceeds went towards the development of green buildings (representing a 15% increase from 2021) and 39% to affordable services and infrastructure.

“In 2022, retail mobilisation across home markets increased by 17% from 2021. Thematically, over 50% of sustainable finance was mobilised through the provision of affordable essential services and infrastructure. Roughly 30% was mobilised towards financing clean transportation, while energy efficiency, including financing of green indexed property units and green mortgages, contributed 16%,” he adds.

The lives of more than 1.05 million households across ASEAN have improved as a result of the group’s financial inclusion initiatives, zakat, micro-insurance offerings and community flagship programmes, says Shahril.

On the group’s decarbonisation journey, he says that Maybank has reduced operational emissions by 48.5% against the 2019 baseline thanks to its energy efficiency projects, Malaysia renewable energy certificates and carbon credits.

Maybank’s Sustainability journey thus far:

A point of pride for Maybank is that it is the first bank in the country (and one of the first in ASEAN) to establish a financed emissions baseline, which sets out the starting point for the group to chart its progress towards decarbonisation. Maybank was recently recognised in TIME magazine’s World’s Best Companies 2023 listing, ranked 374th for Sustainability, the only company in Malaysia to receive this accolade.

As for the fourth sustainability commitment, Maybank has achieved more than 580,000 sustainability hours, with 62% directly related to sustainability initiatives.

Shahril sees the group as an enabler in the country’s sustainability journey, particularly with the government’s more recent introduction of several pivotal frameworks and documents to chart the nation’s energy transition and sustainability pathways.

“The National Energy Transition Roadmap and the government’s intention to increase the renewable energy target to 70% by 2050 and uplift renewable energy export ban are steps in the right direction. Maybank sees itself as an enabler in this space. We have identified the areas of focus, including transition finance, renewable energy, carbon credit producing projects and electric vehicles.”

“We see renewables as a top carbon abatement lever for ASEAN, while electric mobility is viewed as an investment opportunity through partnership with equipment manufacturers and developing a charging infrastructure,” he adds.

Maybank, he says, is not taking its foot off the gas when it comes to seeing its sustainability commitments come to fruition. The group plans to develop a science-based, net-zero pathway and strategy to guide its decarbonisation transition. It also plans to carry out strategic engagements with clients, government ministries and regulators in transitioning to a low-carbon economy, as well as craft new and innovative products and solutions to drive mobilisation in sustainable finance.

@stkoay haha.. no wonder your user ID so familiar. now you just confirmed my guess too. I used to also visit Genting forum back when i also invested in it. since i sold off all shareholdings in GenT and GenM and made a small profit, I am much happier investing in Harimau. My ex-banker brother who used to work in SG also advised me to invest in safe haven stocks like Banks especially Harimau being the largest and biggest bank by cap size. he told me no way Harimau will bankrupt. if that day happens, everyone in Malaysia will also Harakiri. he also said stocks like GenT and GenM are speculative stocks which I also agreed seeing the price yo-yo up and down. so far i am at peace with Harimau and dont bother to monitor daily now. so to other Harimau investors, just invest and be confident in your investment, no one should shake your beliefs and confidence too.

@smartly haha spot on. that's why I don't pity any day traders. make a small profit shout up and down. lose a bit start panicking and talking down the stock to average down. I've been following the stock market for selected stocks very closely for past 2.5 years and also attended webinars by my broker's analyst in understanding trends. while I would say my knowledge is only beginner level in understanding charts and trends, I sometimes laugh at the way some trolls here clairvoyance with unrealistic prices without taking into account the following: 1) speculative nature of KLSE; 2) the real intentions of stock brokers when predicting target prices (even my remisier cautioned that he doesn't even trust his brokers report 100% and to take with pinch of salt); 3) separating the white noise versus facts; and lastly the most annoying of all 4) trolls appearing out of nowhere with their infinite wisdom. we all join a forum to make money together, to beat the big sharks not to beat down one another. no money to be made making each other look like fools. remember - 'eyes on the prize' at all times. peace
