I do monitor the market daily of course. for your info, I think the market will continue to be soft in the short term as a lot of variables affecting sentiment. US Fed hikes leading to outflow of hot money, the occasional C19 spike news, prolonged Russia-Ukraine situation, malaysian economic issues affecting standard of living and of course the local political scene which is still 'fragile'.

I am observing the share prices not only on banking but others like Property, Utilities and Gaming to name a few. Noticed that the lifting of restriction and opening of borders did not seem encouraging as expected. Having said that my gut tells me that the dip has not ended yet for almost all counters.

Also, take note that when IBs tells you a stock is positive and uptrend or otherwise, do take with a pinch of salt and evaluate yourself. I sense that the way foreign investors are viewing how we run our economy, things will drop further by year end before it gets any better. but thats just my personal views.

I would on the other hand rather sit back and relax and see how this all plays out before tying up my money further and seeing more possible paper loss.

No, not with the LHDN appeal cases not over as Mr Taxman appealing the ruling and there's also the issue of Coal based power plants.. their target is 5 years time... so assuming they achieve in 3 or 4 years time, that's the timeline you could focus on the share price rising if they manage to meet ESG targets, otherwise, GG, price will stagnant or free fall

sifu, thanks for heads up on Q1 results tomorrow. yeah am thinking of parking more funds here due to DRP to lower average costs. I also noticed EPF been day trading on this counter to possible 'get back' some volume due to past sell off for the special withdrawal. fortunately for us, this counter volatility is relatively low compared to the market similar industry. on the other hand, I wont top up PBB as due to non existence of DRP there.

As for ASB, i am thinking seriously of rebalancing my portfolio from there as the dividend is always falling annually - only staying at 4.00% for past 2 years. they reserve more dividends for the ASNB bumi funds which is opposite to EPF. any fund that can invest any counters would usually choose which stocks to make more profit (including non-halal counters, Genting, Heinekin, Magnum, etc) thats why EPF conventional account has higher dividend compared to the Shahriah account. But for ASNB what's there excuse for giving less dividend for conventional fund compared to Shahriah? unless they are implying that their conventional fund managers are incompetent to earn lower dividend that their ASNB counterparts. then better park in EPF.

fyi, for the EPF 10K special withdrawal, there is a special notice to remind members that they stand to lose dividends around 5.1% if they take out. which means EPF dividend is confident of a minimum of 5.1% annually.

In recession times, there will be no demand for goods and services. so no sales, job, no work, no income. stock market will free fall as money is a hot commodity for daily expenses.

Inflation on the other hand is caused by more demand more than supply, (printing of more money due to these demand is a cause of inflation). to counter demand. liquidity in market needs to be reduced, hence OPR (overnight policy rate) increase will reduce banks ability to lend out more.

Recession is possible when money is worthless piece of paper like what happened to south america a few decades ago. First sign of trouble with economy is always the retail market. if you see shops closing down, manufacturers factories will soon follow, then the other industries will too. Banking will still be the safest as they would control cash and profitability - probably the last to fall unless you got fraud like Barclays, otherwise quite safe.

property market has an inversed relationship with the stock market. if stock market falls, property market goes up and vice versa as people wants to park their money 'somewhere' to earn returns. in our case, Malaysian property market there is demand. its just that people cannot get loan to buy the houses because of credit crunch as our government wants to control prices of property.

but then again, this topic is not suited here as it is MBB,

TBH, I secretly wish it would go to rm5.80, then I would top up max to increase my shareholdings. to me its simple, even if drop, dividend still around rm0.5x. so DY will be very very good. so its a win win situation. I get to increase and top up my MBB stocks, ROI will rise. so yeah, hopefully a BI soon.
