The difference between bonus issue and split is the value it brings to the investor. Like our sifu @CCH who has just finished finishing barramundi (giant siakap) in Darwin, who is a strategic investor and not a tactical trader, would value Bonus Issue as a sign of good management and performance of the company. For contra players and punters and short-term traders, bonus issue or share spit- it is of no immediate value to these investors.

Bonus issues are different from stock split. I believe you had the 2 confused. Simply put a bonus share is free additional share and stock split is the same share split into 2.

The major difference is in the performance of the company. Only a financially strong company could have the capacity to convert their accumulated reserve fund into share-capital and in-turn rewarding existing shareholders in proportions to their share-holdings. Hence, bonus issue can be viewed as a good indication on the ability to deliver even better results to its shareholders in future. With added liquidity and improved float, with the confidence and perception on the company being strengthen, the market value of KSL that is halved may be significantly increased as retail traders with smaller capital can now invest into the same par value of the share which is at a more palatable price. I mentioned before that perception of the company is important in the market and bonus issue strengthens that positive perception on KSL which is backed by strong fundamentals.

Share split is like what u say- two $5 notes from a $10 note or liken to cutting a pizza from 4 slices to 8 slices. This means the company just wants to increase liquidity without a change to its fundamentals. Nothing changes except the number of shares traded at half the price. Usually this perceived less favourably in the market but there are always cases that are otherwise.

@Raptor I am not good with hit and run as I have always been bad in punting... yea, significant outflow of foreign funds are seen recently... this kampung lui remains cautious as the investment in the market is from the pains of my barter trading and hard work in my papaya garden... :))

Market seems to be in a mix today. Although US market seemed to be better on Friday. Global market uncertainty and deepening overseas issues seems to be a concern lingering amongst investors. My portfolio is all in the red with the exception of KSL.

However, locally, there seems to be a deep concern on the property sector as it is reported that for the 1st 9 months this year, loan approvals are only 30% and developers are finding difficulty in sales. Not forgetting the looming possibility of a global financial crisis as cited by experts.

The strong fundamentals of KSL is of little concern but again, market performance is based on perception rather than the foundation strength of a counter. I guess, one has to be cautious in the current period and trade with care.
