Bloomberg is reporting that MGM recently approached the Lim family to gauge interest in a deal and although no such agreement was reached, MGM “could resume its pursuit of the company.” The report suggests that other potential suitors are also studying Genting Singapore, which has traditionally been Genting Group’s most profitable entity since RWS – one of only two integrated resorts in Singapore alongside Marina Bay Sands – opened in 2010.
It was also one of the group’s few businesses to remain profitable through much of the COVID-19 pandemic, having most recently reported a 13% year-on-year increase in revenues to SG$315 million (US$225 million) and 17% increase in net profit to SG$40 million (US$29 million) in 1Q22.
Genting Singapore’s Malaysian-listed parent, Genting Berhad, owns 53% of the business.

it proved what i mentioned is right .... genting lose big in las vegas.
KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 24): Genting Bhd slipped into the red in the fourth quarter ended Dec 31, 2021 (4QFY21), posting a net loss of RM129.81 million — its fourth straight quarterly loss — compared to a net profit of RM24.98 million a year ago, on higher depreciation and net finance costs arising mainly from Resorts World Las Vegas’ commencement of operations.
The group's quarterly performance was also dragged down by the higher share of losses in joint ventures and associates, mainly due to a share of loss from the Meizhou Wan power plant in China as a result of higher coal costs despite better generation.

SK Hynix Inc. is considering cutting its 2023 capital expenditure by about a quarter to 16 trillion won ($12.2 billion) in response to slower electronics demand than anticipated, people familiar with the matter said.
The world’s second largest memory maker is sticking largely with plans to spend about 21 trillion won this year building up DRAM and NAND capacity, the people said. But rising uncertainty over dwindling demand for the chips that go into everything from smartphones to servers has forced a rethink of expansions next year, they said, asking not to be identified talking about undisclosed plans.

A global chip shortage that has lasted for about two years is seeing a sudden shift into oversupply in semiconductors for smartphones and personal computers, as consumer demand for certain electronics has been weaker than expected of late, experts said.

U.S. inflation rose 9.1% in June to hit a fresh four-decade high, topping economists' forecast for a 9% rise, driven by an 11.2% leap in gas prices and a 1.0% increase in food prices.
This “will be the last big increase,” Pantheon Macroeconomics said, as margins fall, wage gains slow and commodity prices decline. “But right now this report will make for very uncomfortable reading at the Fed,” it added.
With just two weeks to go until the Fed’s July meeting, investors are now betting that the Fed will be forced to deliver a 1% rate hike, bringing the central bank closer to reaching a restrictive stance on monetary policy. Following the report, Atlanta Federal Reserve President Raphael Bostic fueled further speculation of a 1% rate hike, saying "everything was in play."
The odds of a 1% rate hike jumped to 76% from just 10% a day earlier, according to Investing.com’s Fed Rate Monitor Tool.

PETALING JAYA: A highly-connected group of lobbyists used “every trick in the book” to secure a risk-free solar power contract 2.5 times over the limit for open bidding, according to former energy minister Yeo Bee Yin.
Yeo Bee Yin.
They represented independent power producers with “very high cables” who demanded a direct award for a 250-megawatt large-scale solar project, she writes in her memoir, The Unfinished Business.
“It irked me to have to put on a polite front with people who expected the government to hand them a cash cow instead of putting in an honest day’s work like everyone else,” she said.
Extracts of her book, which will soon be published, were made available to FMT.

In a chapter on power sector reforms, Yeo said the solar projects were part of the energy ministry’s plans to increase the share of renewable energy to 20% by 2025.
“We also set a policy that each company can only bid for 100MW in each round to make the bidding a stepping stone for more local players to grow,” she writes.
“This group demanded a direct award for a project 2.5 times larger than the maximum capacity set for open bidding.”
She said the group refused to be part of an arrangement where companies would build power plants at their own risk and bid to offer power supplies to the national grid at the lowest price at a particular time.
A chapter from Yeo Bee Yin’s memoirs The Unfinished Business.
“Of course, this group adamantly declined to do so. In short, this group wanted a risk-free solar IPP award. They tried every trick in the book to get me to give in, but I just could not bring myself to do it,” she writes in the book.
She said her rejection of the demand for direct contracts led to them painting an anti-business image of herself to their patron.
She said the lobbyist group turned down subsequent offers of other means to take part in the renewable energy plan.
Yeo said she tried to “rack her brains” to come up with polite ways to reject the lobbyists.
She noted that the effect of “big cable” lobbying was much less severe when Pakatan Harapan was in government compared to the Barisan Nasional and current Perikatan Nasional governments.
“Looking back now, I am glad that my team and I did our best to protect the people’s welfare from such suckers of blood,” she wrote.
