“The improvement in net profits was primarily attributable to increased gross profit margin arising from change in product mix, lower overhead costs in PT Unisem after the restructuring exercise, grant income received by a foreign subsidiary and lower interest expense,” it said in a filing to Bursa Malaysia this evening. Bursa official announcement: The figures - have not been audited
Boost of revenue is coming from massive headcount reduction or increase in demand for smartphone components?
If production is ramping, headcounts should be increasing to meet demand not otherwise. Between the 2 possibilities, the earlier one is more pausible. - 60 exec level staffs or higher have been axed to make cosmetic adjustments for the revenues this time.

There are few things that I found to be odd to be in the headlines.
<Highlights>
Solid 3Q14 earnings chiefly due to strong demand of new smartphone launches as well as proliferation of 4G technology in China.
-Smartphones have been losing demand as proven with latest Samsung and
iPhone sales.Samsung is heading for the same direction as Nokia.
Automotive tire pressure management systems, MEMs microphone and pressure sensors for smartphones continue to be steadily increasing.
-Smartphones demand are not steadily increasing. This is not true.
Although demand momentum extended into Oct and Nov, Unisem expect sales to be flat to -5% qoq in 4Q14 to be cautious on Dec in view of year-end inventory adjustments.
Unisem Test located in Sunnyvale will be scaled down with immediate effect and cease all production by 1Q15 due to the anticipation of significant reduction in business volume. 60 employees will be made redundant and ~RM580k will be provisioned in 4Q14.
-After the shutdown of their Wales plant, the Sunnyvale California, US plant is next? 60 employees to be axed? That's quite some cost saving.
Is this where the extra money is being pumped in now for the revenues boost?

"Finally got few lots of Unisem after a few days locked at RM1.66
Although the price is up recently but i still want to go for any price below rm1.66 due to:
1. Market response for iphone 6 and Galaxy 5 & Note 4 is huge.
2. Reliable information indicated that the coming Q report will be good and strong (Unisem is making some IC for iPhone and Galaxy; now filled up most of the capacity)"

Modern-day Slavery Rife in Malaysia’s Electronics Industry
http://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2014/sep/17/modern-day-slavery-malaysia-electronics-industry
In the report, the state department criticised Malaysia for widespread abuse of its 4 million migrant workforce. Most of the electronics workers interviewed by Verité said they had been detained, harassed, blackmailed or threatened by immigration officials, police or the much-feared Rela, Malaysia’s voluntary citizen security corps, which is charged with rooting out illegal migrants.
Verité refuses to name brands it found to be using forced labour to produce goods, because it fears that would be counterproductive to its mission to create greater accountability in supply chains.
“We didn’t go into this research looking to name and shame,” Viederman said. “What we are concerned about is that the use of forced labour is absolutely systemic and that any company that produces or sources electronics from Malaysia must work to ensure that they are proactively taking actions to eliminate that risk.”

“You know it’s time to sell when shoeshine boys give you stock tips. This bull market is over.”
It was Winter time in 1928, father of President John F. Kennedy, went to the cobbler to have his shoes polished. When the shoe polisher(shoe shine boy) completed his dues he offered Kennedy a stock tip. “Go buy Hindeburg - Good one"
Kennedy quickly sold off all of his stock holdings. Within a year America saw a massive stock market crash that wiped out the life savings of millions of Americans with the Great Depression.
Lesson of the day? Noises and suggestions you hear are often late tips or traps to lure the public and independent/individual investors to pump in money. When you hear: BUY! You know the big time players are already planning for profit taking in the near future.
Shoe shine boy hints are more dangerous calls than anything else.
Today it's more complicated. The shoe shine boy could be your Hollywood star or famous celbrity with bowties, neck ribbons and PhDs paid to do PR for the invisible tycoons.
Remember someone's lost is another man's gain. The man who took profit could be in the same boat collaborating as the guy who told you to go in and fell for the trap.
This will second the thread starter as a word of caution to independent stock buyers and investors. Do not attempt at peak prices.

RadioShack to Shut 1,100 Stores as 4Q Sales Plunge
RadioShack (RSH) revealed another quarter of red ink and a 19% tumble in same-store sales on Tuesday, prompting the embattled electronics retailer to shutter up to 1,100 stores.
Wall Street slammed RadioShack’s beaten-down share price in the wake of the big earnings miss, driving it as much as 19% in the red.
The electronics company logged a net loss of $191.4 million, or $1.90 a share, last quarter, compared with a loss of $63.3 million, or 63 cents a share, a year earlier.
Excluding one-time items, RadioShack lost $1.29 a share, widely missing projections from analysts for a loss of 14 cents.
Revenue dropped 20% to $935.4 billion, trailing the Street’s view of $1.12 billion. Same-store sales slumped 19% and gross margins slid to 29.8% from 35.8%.
“Our fourth-quarter financial results were driven by a holiday season characterized by lower store traffic, intense promotional activity particularly in consumer electronics, a very soft mobility marketplace and a few operational issues,” RadioShack CEO Joseph Magnacca said in a statement.

Thus, the inflation was normal to happen with the increase wealth attained followed by high interest rates from off and on to balance things.
Meaning to say the inflation was fueled with real growth and people were getting paid accordingly to offset the inflation.
The inflation we're experiencing today is not a product of real growth but caused by the increase in money printing and lost of national reserves due to bad investments and cheating.
Our inflation is not balanced with real job numbers that pay accordingly to match the rise of prices and real buying power. Our middle income group is shrinking as we speak it does not par with inflation.

As for interest rates, cronies will raise it when they stash their money into banks to serve themselves. Economomists give the excuse that they do it to dampe inflation which is BS.
Overall high intererest rates are bad for the country. People heavily in debt will get poorer with their debt repayment prolonged.
It also discourages people from spending so the economy will not move but causes inflation instead due to rising interest rates.
Rising inflation causes many people to not afford many things they once used to and thus the entire social balance in the country affected.

MNCs seldom do international trade with unstable low value Ringgit but cronies want Ringgit to devalue so they pay their people less to get richer. -

The GE13 fraud is a good example that research studies cannot be relied on as well due to the influence of money.
If we can manipulate numbers by buying votes, the same goes to companies sponsoring research grants.
Think of this: Why would a company which donates and sponsor a reputable name academy/institution/university to do research on their products if they have slim chances of getting their desired results?
Would you think the grant recipient dares to produce negative results and report it to their sponsor? It'll end up having their funds revoked or worst losing their jobs!
Sometimes I don't believe much in study statistics or analyst reports by security companies for this reason. They can be biased for the money or connections.

The PR team overlooked 2 important loopholes in this GE13.
1) While they anticipated that most of the banglas are to be sent to hot seats in urban areas to vote, I believed they were sent more to remote areas where PR least expected and the uneducated had an idea of their existence.
You know, if you put those Sulu or Pinoys in those remote parliament seats in Sabah and Sarawak, you will have much difficulties differentiating their language accent with the orang asli. That camourflaged their secret plans.
2) The whole gerrymandering idea was to concentrate on these small but many Parliament constituencies in rural areas in Sabah/Sarawak because the rule was to win as many Parliament seats as possible to qualify as the government and not the number of vote counts for each party.
To divert the attention of PR, they placed candidates which they want to kicked out in this term such as the useless ex Transport Minister so that PR will keep a tight watch at those hot seats but quietly they were hiding more of the illegal foreigners in those small rural areas to maximise Parliament seats.

All your thoughts reeks of selfishness and greed. This is the mentality behind Malaysian traitors and fence sitters.Go where the wind blows and side those who can give you better advantages.Save your own skin first what right? Who cares what happens to this country my slf and family comes first.
Good luck to people like you. I hope your metality gets opened up further.
Free higher education will pave way to a more knowledged society which will enrich this country further. Of course it'll narrow the income gap which cronies like you will never agree. If the country is rich there will be more job opportunies and people won't have to fight with the leftovers. You and I whether you have children a not will benefit from the low unemployment. Good karma what goes around comes around.
We don't want a pagoda and a stick shape middle class. We want a pyramid which the middle class occupies most of it.

In GE12 opposition could not become the govt due to a setback by both Sabah and Sarawak having preferred bangla nasional as their party.
I have some worries about the outcome with states like Terengganu and Pahang where PR might lose its grip once again and don't forget Sabah and Sarawak once again.
These were the states that held back PR from seizing the Parliament.Hope they look into this weak point for this coming GE13 in 2 days time.
