The odd thing is that the management still has yet to come out with an official announcement on the extent of the damage.
In the name of good governance and to prevent insider trading, information should be quickly disseminated as they are discovered. Issues like whether insurance will cover, how long before restoration, what was the cause - human error etc.

Par value is irrelevant as one should focus on the net asset per share.

There was a write-up in the Star Saturday 25 June. It said that investors are apprehensive about Toto shares despite its low PE and high dividend yields which was attributed to major shareholder selling at below market price. It did say that the sell-off was to fund the shareholders cash flow needs rather than the company's prospects.
Of course we have to ask ourselves as to whether it was an independent view. Be a natural skeptic.

I'm pleased with the 5 sen dividend. Anyone unhappy?
Performance wise I need to look into the details.

The trouble is too many shares are going for a song. They are screaming for my attention but I have too little money.
My new target is < 3.

If he gives it to his crony then it should rightfully compensate at fair value. The trouble is that market value is the best indicator of fair value. At such depressed prices, the new owner can buy it for a song.
Naturally we the existing shareholders will be the losers.

Who's got the guts to dive in? Come on be a man! Prices today is the lowest over 5 years.
Is there a basis? Perhaps. Among others - Threat of hudud, increased GST, gaming license not renewed etc.
But on the other hand would the government kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.

I thought that Magnum was a "recession-proof" business.
One of the directors said that it's more a "recession-resistant" business - meaning that it is still affected by recession but not a lot.

Mamatede - agreed that the govt is stupid to increase taxes on this business but the bigwigs are more intelligent to allow this to happen because I suspect (though without proof) that some of them may have their grubby hands in the cookie jar.
It may not have sovereign funds but it has 2 of the largest insurance companies with significant stakes.

I agree with you 100% Somo1.
In fact that's what I had been harping as a shareholder of BToto as well - share-buybacks and then axe them to shore up EPS. But instead we get shares as dividend in specie.
It's also fine to invest in MM unit trust for some yield (as there's greater flexibility with the resultant asset). However at today's prices buybacks look more compelling.

Somo1 - His opinion about mobile trucks peddling 4D is good but may not be feasible since it may infringe the businesses of existing fixed outlets.
As for the organic farming, if it's a good spin-off for the mobile truck (assuming feasible) then I really would not mind but the vegetables should be sold at commercial rates with decent profits - If anyone wants to do social service then they should join some NGOs.
The board responded saying that they operate with a very lean staff strength (about 200) for which I'm grateful.

An interesting info presented at the AGM today is how taxes in this heavily taxed business is derived. The following e.g. explains:
Assuming Sales 100
Less Gaming Tax (8)
Pool Betting Duties (7.18)
84.82
Less Price payout (62.56)
Balance 22.56
GST = 6%/106% x 22.56 = 1.26
Some nut case asked for more CSR. To which I responded that the huge taxes paid by Magnum was already CSR hence no need for more CSR. If any shareholder wanted the co to do more CSR, then he/she should use their dividend money to perform their respective CSR.

Royalmail88 - I get annoyed with companies that tell you % dividend. Then I have to download annual report & check what's the par value & work out the dollar dividend per share. I guess it makes the co look good when it says that it's declaring 100% dividend when its par is only 10 sen. Shock sendiri saja!

I speculate & hope that the motive is that Berjaya Land (& its 100% subco Gateway) sold the stakes to raise cash rather than it did not see value or it's jumping off a sinking ship.
Berjaya Land afterall incurred losses for the FY 2015 and has huge borrowings to service. Does it make sense?

Last year 30 Apr 15, Full year EPS = 26.75 & Div = 21.50;
Current YTD 31 Jan 16 = 14.93 & Div = 14
So if the performance is the same (or stagnant) then for the quarter to 30 Apr 16, EPS = 26.75 - 14.93 = 11.82 & Div = 21.5 - 14 = 7.5
Give me stagnant performance & I'd be happy.

This illegal issue thing has been going on for decades. They can crack it down but i speculate that too many bigwigs have their hands in the illegal cookie jar hence any action will be just for show.
Would the govt like to increase their coffers with gaming taxes from the legal gaming outfits? - The answer is Yes. But between the govt's coffers and personal pockets then what do you think would be the preference?

Looks like they met my expectations. But I'm still somewhat disappointed as my expectations were low to begin with. My worry is that this is supposedly the best quarter.
Considering the strong headwinds with the poor economic & political sentiments I can only hope for the same performance to be repeated for the next 3 quarters. Anything more would be a bonus and anything less is unfortunately expected.

One impact is that Bizurai as a result of ceasing to be a substantial shareholder, need not per se disclose it's dealing.
But I think despite this, any dealings by Bizurai would still require TVT's disclosure since it would impact his holdings as a substantial shareholder.

At the recent AGM, the chairman was impatient & was trying to bulldoze the accounts deliberation. That's not right as shareholders only has a once a year opportunity to grill the board.
Shareholders are concerned over several issues including the declining share price & dividends. The fact that the investment was written down soon after acquisition which smells a rat.
MSWG raised the issue that one of the directors did not attend 3 out of 5 board meets and was not present at the AGM was seeking re-election. A few of us was put our hands up opposing to his re-election. However there were several old folks who were just pleased to be treated nicely in a pleasant surrounding, with an umbrella as a door gift and a spread of food who blindly like zombies supported his re-election. MSWG also noted that there was a director who did not attend the past 2 AGMs as well as the current. It gives me the impression that their presence in the company was merely to carry the title "director", collect fees and eat popiah at meetings. I hope that the parent company notices these red flags & do something about it.
