There are about 50 companies in Bursa that has a "dividend policy"! Surprisingly, GDB is one of them!
2018-09-07 06:24 | Report Abuse
About 700mil USD has been received! Tony can consider an interim dividend right away if he wanted! That will solve the issue of many saying to have waited too long! It will also calm the share price at the current market conditions

GDB 1st halve is making about 15mil profits! I expect full year about 30mil profits! With a 30% dividend policy, you can expect 9mil as dividend. Divide 9mil by 625mil shares, you will get 0.0144 per share!
Depend on what price you buy GDB, dividend yield is about 4.2% at today closed at 35sen!

On the issue high oil price! High oil price will affect all airlines, not just AirAsia! The more critical issue is whether you are an efficient airline or not! If oil price remain high and affect profit margin, they will eventually have to adjust ticket prices! AirAsia is still a pretty efficient airline, probably one of the best in the world, surprisingly! This high oil price may work out advantage for AirAsia in gaining market share from the less efficient airlines!

If you care to look at the last 10 years data, average profit margin after tax is averaging around 15% despite some years oil price has hit over USD100. On a quarterly or yearly basis, escalating oil price can really hit bottom line! 15% PAT Margin is still a good business to put your money in! What really dragged AirAsia down is the investment in associates! But then again, AirAsia cannot grow big without going regional. So, investing in AirAsia, will requires us to accept the initial drag down by these associates! Time will tell is Tony is going to be successful on the regional push! Although i cannot tell whether the associates are going to profitable, i see this as a larger plan by AirAsia to grow into credible group if the associates are turning in profits!

Already waited so long! No good reasons to sell now!
After special dividend, you invested capital cost is now lower! For long term investors this would mean a lower risk now as invested acapital is much lower after ex! If AirAsia still have a lot of growth is good investors that still plan to hold after ex-date.
Whether to sell or not depends on your view on whether AirAsia is still having good bottom line growth for the next few years!

Short term the market will still be sensitive to fuel price! If you care to tabulate AirAsia's revenue and PAT, you will notice that AirAsia still can provide you an average PAT of 15%. I am ok with such margin on long term basis! On short term, demanding more than 15% is reasonable! AirAsia can still easily in growth trajectory in the next 5 years!

The USD501.6 mil works out to be about 60sen per share! Easily, a 20sen dividend can be paid out immediately, if wanted!

Since part of the proceeds has been received, it is possible another dividend pay out may be in the offing!

AirAsia closed at 3.22 last Friday! It is mind boggling why EPF still selling last Friday at around this price! Anyway, the selling by EPF is my guess as lately they sold to below 5% holding, which they have to announce in Bursa website. AirAsia already announced on Thursday that 12sen dividend will ex on June 12. If you divide 12sen by 3.22, it is about 3.7% dividend yield. It is crazy to sell now knowing AirAsia just announced a reasonably good Q1 numbers and also special dividends is coming in a few months!

Watch this video to understand why low cost airline business is interesting!

If you look at a bigger view, low cost airline earnings is cyclical mainly due to oil prices. If you think oil prices will go low again in the future, then you should be picking up when oil prices is high! Unless, you are on short term only!

With Europe low cost airlines now facing strong headwinds, i really cannot expect too much from AirAsia for now. I am more than happy that Tony undertake to monetised some of the other businesses to focus more on the core ones!
2018-05-25 10:12 | Report Abuse
Low cost airline business is a viable business provided you are at a dominant position with a good operating cost structure. Escalating oil price affect the profits but will the smaller players more. As long as the dominant ones can withstand the headwinds, be that high oil price and others, the opportunities will follow!

I have invested in AirAsia since 2015. On the way i have read many negative postings by Calvin! If i have sold as what he has recommended, i would have missed my investment gain on AirAsia!
You can google up all the bad writings he has done on AirAsia to judge for yourself whether you should bother to read his rubbish!
Following are just two he has posted. There are many more out there!

In bursa filing yesterday, Wong TS still holds a total about 40%(direct+indirect). Dato'Dr.Norraesah about 30%. EPF is likely less than 5% by now!

The fact that both major shareholders, Wong TS and Dato' Dr.Norraesah bought up some shares yesterday(May 17) from the market will provide some support to the market today!

On May11, EPF left with 187,749,400 shares(5.21%). Assuming EPF sold further from May 14 to 17, there should be much less shares EPF is holding.

Jaya, go back to look at during the closed 2 days before election day, you will get the clue on big boys taking advantage of the weak market to collect AirAsia at 3.70! About 2 million shares on buy queqe at close.
If market is bullish on Monday, you can well guess where AA will go.

It is still not too late to pick up some AirAsia, especially with the latest pullback in share price! In May last year, EPF appointed funds sold for profits, just to see it moving higher after that. With Tony moving into digital, Big Pay and impending growth, AirAsia's valuation has hugh upside to go!
3 years investment timeframe will be just nice to continue betting on it!
