The Prime Minister said that the government is now aiming for 500,000 daily vaccinations to ensure that 100% of all adults in Malaysia would have received two doses by October of this year.
"Initially, 80% of the Malaysian population was supposed to receive complete doses by the first quarter of 2022. This was then expedited to December 2021.
"Now, with more new Covid-19 variants which are more ferocious and a sudden surge in positive cases, the target of the vaccination programme has been expedited further,” said Muhyiddin.

“The UK right now is facing more than 30,000 cases a day because of the Delta variant and because they have started to open up. You can see that stadiums are full for the Euro 2021 football competition and they are not wearing masks.

For some market watchers, like BlackRock's co-chief investment officer of fundamental equities Nigel Bolton, any pull-backs would be buying opportunities, though.
"We see really strong earnings growth, not just for this year, not just the bounce back, but actually going forward into 2022 and also, at a slower pace, into 2023 as well," BlackRock's Bolton said by phone. "So all of those factors are the reasons why you are still looking at a bull market and we will have wobbles on the way."

Last Price : 8.12 | Upside/Downside : +2.63 (32.39%)
Henceforth, our top pick for 3QCY21 is MAYBANK (OP; TP: RM10.75) as its industry-leading dividend yield (7-8%) and dividend-to-ROE would provide sizeable buffers for investors seeking a long-term play amidst ongoing macroeconomic uncertainties. Additionally, its GIL ratio is still fairly within the industry average of c.2.2% which indicates the bank has sound asset quality measures despite being the market leader (c.30% financing share) between the 10 banks within our coverage.

We orate buying-on-weakness and highlight MAYBANK (OP; TP: RM10.65) as our favourite pick in the sector. Its industry-leading dividend yield (7-8%) and dividend-to-ROE provide sizeable buffers for investors seeking a long-term play amidst ongoing macroeconomic uncertainties. Additionally, its GIL ratio is still fairly within the industry average of c.2.2% which indicates the bank has sound asset quality measures despite being the market leader (c.30% financing share) between the 10 banks within our coverage. Further, its high fixed-rate loan mix (c.28%) is offset by its high CASA-to-deposit ratio (c. 40%) to cushion OPR fluctuations in the near-term.

“That said, we don't foresee a substantial jump in the moratorium take-up rate from the current 15%. That's because of the additional interest burden that will be accrued for moratorium borrowers and still healthy balance sheets for most household and corporate borrowers in Malaysia,” it said.
S&P base case suggests most weak credits are already covered by the ongoing targeted assistance programs.
“Strong capital positions, sound liquidity conditions, and prudent risk management practices of local banks still anchor our current credit assessment of Malaysian banks.

PETALING JAYA: The latest loan moratorium under the RM150bil Pemulih package will not be interest free, but it would help borrowers by deferring the repayment to a later date.
Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said on Tuesday the banks will, however, waive the compounded interest or the interest charged on interest accrued during the six-month moratorium period, as well as any penalty charges.
The method of repayment, including on interest charges, is “between the borrowers and the banks”.
“You will have to discuss this with your respective banks.
“I don’t know the answer, but the interest charges will differ from bank to bank and from product to product.

Retain OVERWEIGHT. We see negligible price reaction on the above development. Recall, back in late Mar-20 and early May-20, when BNM announced the automatic 6- mth loan moratorium and banks agreed to waive the additional hire purchase interest charge on borrowers (upon request by the MoF), on both occasions the KL Finance Index continued to trade sideways.
For large-sized banks, we like Maybank (TP: RM9.40) for its strong dividend yield offering, and Public Bank (TP: RM4.50) for its defensive qualities, over CIMB (TP: RM4.60). For mid -sized banks, RHB (TP: RM6.85) is favoured more than AMMB (TP: RM2.85) as the former has a higher CET1 ratio & also, larger FVOCI reserve to buffer against potential yield curve volatility.

We maintain our OVERWEIGHT stance on the sector with top picks of CIMB (fair value RM5.60), RHB Bank (FV RM6.90) and Maybank (FV RM10.40). We like CIMB, RHB and Maybank due to the expected improvement in core operating income coming from the gradual improvement in regional operations performance, progressive improvement in underlying NIMs and provisions for loan losses. Earnings of these banks are also expected to benefit from the improved performance of their Singapore operations which in 2020 were affected by provisions (overlays and specific provisions).

For those who have to stay invested, we recommend accumulating MAYBANK (OP; TP: RM10.65) as its strong dividend yield potential (7-8%) will continue to provide cushion to investors seeking a long-term position. Additionally, despite being the leader in loans market share, it commands a fair GIL ratio of c.2% (within industry average). To us, this indicates that its books are well guarded with tight asset quality checks.
