Why only 52% of the profit??

If they do it with a GO with a revised offer, they can easily get 80-85% of the shares. Minority group has said they are willing to accept a 4.50 offer.

With a GO, they can set their own term/level of acceptance.
The difficult part is the delisting, where they still need 90% of the shares they dun own. They can follow the path like Bernas.

I have just heard from a friend who works in financial services that PKN might team up with SD to buy PKN's 52% stake and will also extend the offer to the minority at about 4.50-4.80.
This will be a win win for both, as SD will have access to their land bank while they also need SD financial resource. That may explain why SD helped them to withdraw from SCR, cos if they proceed and got rejected, they may not be allowed to come out with a new offer in less than 6 mths.
No wonder the buy rate was quite high today. And I think my friend might have also oredi bot some, if not he would not have reveal this.....hahaha.
But be reminded that this is just a RUMOR, I dun know how reliable is his source.:)) I will not be doing anything, but just watch. :))

How much will you gain if they revised the price to say 4.50?
Just weight the risk reward ratio.:))

If they replace it with a GO, then they can set their own term/level of acceptance. Of course they still need 90% of the share they dun own to forcibly delist, but 75% will be enough to get it suspended.
By then it is only between them and SD.
And I think if they withdraw from SCR, they can replace with GO.
If it is rejected, they need 6 mths to come out with new offer.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

It is learnt that the contention point is that the offer of RM3.90 is way below the asset value of Perak Corp, which owns a large landbank in Perak that has not been revalued for years, and port assets.

@skng74. In an article published by the edge 2 wks ago, Minority Group said they are willing to accept 4.50 and Sime Darby was negotiating for a better price.
Think SD was asking for a very high price, if it's 4.50, it should be acceptable to PKNP.
If their assets are so undervalued, then can consider holding for long term.......If they really needs the asset, they will come out with a better offer.

Stock

2014-10-24 19:20 | Report Abuse

@skng74. It's a bad news for the short term. But the stock has missed out on the current rally of undervalued property stocks bcos of impending SCR and moreover a lot of shares have changed hands at current level for the last 10 mths, so I hope the negative reaction will not be too bad.
I think they will still negotiate with Sime Darby.

Stock

2014-10-24 18:31 | Report Abuse

If the offer is rejected in an EGM, they will need another 6 mths b4 they can come out with a new offer.
If they withdraw, may be they can use other method, like a GO.
At the end, it is the offer price that matters.
Short term it may be negative to the price, but for long term it should be higher.
Sime Darby is in for the long term.

Lead Story: Gems to be found on lacklustre Bursa

“You have to be a stock picker in this market. You have to look for triggers or events,” says Lim, who has been with the Franklin Templeton family for over two decades and co-manages several of its emerging-market funds.

In Malaysia, the Templeton Emerging Markets Group is “not excited” about the big-cap stocks for now. Instead, its research team has been focusing on mid-cap stocks. Lim says this is where the investment house is finding value, in companies that have not shown up on the radar screen of investors.

“A lot of big investors come to Malaysia and they look at the 10 biggest companies, because they need the liquidity. They need to get in quickly and get out quickly. In our case, we are long term — we are looking to hold [the stocks] for five years. So, we can afford to buy into companies that are smaller, but it is not easy [to find these]. I’d like to think that our local research team provides us with an edge in finding these gems,” he adds.

“Thus we recommend buy on weakness of the stocks that fulfil your fundamental requirements – i.e. inherent earnings quality, good earnings growth potential, and/or attractive valuation,” the research house said.

KUALA LUMPUR: MIDF Research says the trend of the equity market is likely to remain “upward-sloping going forward” despite the recent down-swing in global equity markets, and is advising investors to buy on weakness.

“Empirical evidence shows that even amidst period of economic expansion, the market can never be immune to intermittent cyclical correction. However, under this circumstance, which can be unnerving, it is advisable to not overreact and succumb to the market’s inexplicably rising fear," it advised.

“Be reminded that, more often than not, the pullback is essentially a manifestation that earlier market expectations may have exceeded the unfolding reality. Accordingly, the prevailing valuation needs to be duly corrected.

“Thus we recommend buy on weakness of the stocks that fulfil your fundamental requirements – i.e. inherent earnings quality, good earnings growth potential, and/or attractive valuation,” the research house said.

According to MIDF, the recent equity market downswing started on Wall Street arguably in reaction to a small cut in IMF’s global growth outlook for 2015, coupled with a deeper than expected decline in Germany’s monthly industrial production and crude oil futures breaking below its key price support levels.

It thinks the short-term local market undertone would continue to be dictated mainly by the prevailing vagaries on Wall Street, rather than any systemic dislocation whether in the EU or China.

“The IMF expects global output growth to accelerate from 3.3% this year to 3.8% in 2015. Interestingly, the same IMF recently revised upward its growth expectations for the US to 2.2% this year and 3.1% for 2015. Furthermore, despite further cut to the already tepid Eurozone growth expectation, we are seeing no heightened risk of systemic dislocation as was witnessed during the 2011 Euro debt crisis,” MIDF said.

It pointed out that despite the recent pullback in world’s equity market, China’s stock market is showing a limited reaction to the sell-off.

“We reckon the current pullback is (a) short-term cyclical (phenomenon),” the research house said.

MIDF said it had on Jan 8 stated that the potential downside to the KLCI would be limited to 1,750-1,700 points range, and is still standing by it. In fact, it opined that the ensuing recovery might be nearly as swift.

“Therefore, while it is admitted that our current year-end target of 1,900 points may seem lofty under the prevailing market sentiment, we believe its achievement will only be delayed by only up to three-six months. Furthermore, we expect the KLCI shall end the year at above the psychological level of 1,800 points.

“We thereby revise our FBM KLCI 2014 year-end target to 1,850-1,800 points range. But at the same time, we reiterate our FBM KLCI 2015 year-end target at 1,970 points,” it said.
