you have to look at their respective stock levels then....Choo Bee is a steel trader and speculator.....Choo Bee bet the farm that prices will keep going up...CSC is just normal stock level at March 2017.

since Choo Bee stock level is at record high, stock write off at Choo Bee will be horrendous if prices come down because iron ore prices have come down about 40% recently

CSC
The largest manufacturer of CRC products in Malaysia. CSCSTEL (listed in Dec 2004) is engaged in the upstream of the steel value chain, manufacturing and marketing of pickled and oiled steel (PO), cold rolled coil (CRC) products, hot dipped galvanised steel (GI steel) and pre painted galvanised steel (PPGI) or colour coated steel. The group operates in the mid-stream of the steel value chain. The stock is a resilient play on the steel sector amid diversified revenue base to buffer fluctuation in the industry in the construction & property, manufacturing & Industrial, automotive and others. Since inception, CSCSTEL was able to ride on the tough operating environment largely unscathed, thanks to its hands-on management, solid balance sheet, sound business structure, product acceptance and operational efficiency coupled with strong backing from its parent, China Steel Corp, Taiwan.
The company is situated in Ayer Keroh Industrial Estate in Melaka. It has the capacity to produce 40,000 metric tons of P&O, 440,000 metric tons of CRC, 240,000 metric tons of GI and 120,000 metric tons of PPGI steel annually. CSCSTEL’s main raw material, hot rolled steel (HRC), is mainly supplied by its parent company and its related companies in Taiwan and Vietnam. The group’s downstream customers are the steel pipe makers, steel drum makers, roll formers for roof sheet and cladding and steel service centres. In 2016, the capacity utilization rate of the plant is 90% and its main market is in Malaysia with less than 20% of its revenue derived from exports.

So Warren Buffet recently admitted he was wrong and he did not have the financial smarts to buy Amazon ...but what made WB into WB was his strength and ability to buy turnarounds.
In turnaround situations, you will find wrecked Balance Sheets, littered with loans and borrowings, low profitability, high PEs...yet off the Balance Sheet, off the audited accounts, a developing story of improving environment, a compelling story you have to dig out....like when WB bought into oil and gas industry, airline industry, banks and insurance companies , railroads and each time, after major crisis in the particular industry.
Growth stocks and turnarounds have no easy formulas to follow, each case is different but they offer some of the best returns.
Jaks , growth story and Sendai, turnaround story are good local examples.

I call it maths / physics envy.
To some people, they think they arm themselves with a fixed set of formulas can go out and conquer the world of investments.
Engineers do love their formulas, don't they?

a small project with small capital and decent earnings will give you IRR 12% and $ 1000 p.a.
An US$ 2 billion IPP project with decent earnings will give you an IRR 12% and US$ 100 million p.a. if the capital structure and gearing levels are done right and especially if there is an early recovery US$ 100 million of capital from EPCC...follow the money...details matter.
Good businessman will choose the latter, maths teacher thinks there is equivalence....that is why business man drive Rolls Royce and maths teacher drives what?

KC and his IRR is old school
Bitcoin and block chains are the real deal.

charles....
Financial tools must be handled with care otherwise it can be very misleading.
a project can give you $ 1000 per annum and yield you an IRR of 12%.
another project can give you $ 100 million per annum and still yield you an IRR of 12%
you will want the $ 100 million p.a. project over the $ 1000 p.a. project if you can get it.
there is some thing fundamentally flawed in maths teacher way of looking at things.
Businessman look at the money, follow the money...be direct about it.

hahaha I like this article, I really do.
A public forum such as i3 has been dominated by FA and TA technicians without business sense for far too long already.
My guiding principle for stock selection is good business, good people and good numbers in this order.
If every FA wants to buy high NTA, low PE and strong Balance Sheet...(and they don't even adequately cover the business) ..when high NTA, low PE and strong Balance Sheet is actually found, what do you call these? I cal them left overs, like the wall flowers in dancing party. It is not going to be very lucrative if your whole portfolio is full of left overs and wall flowers.
On the other hand, Amazon is a 500 bagger but what FA tools can the FA experts use to buy and hold on to Amazon shares to ride the rise of Amazon? Again, reinforcing the idea that business sense is the number one skill to be a hugely successful investor.
Even financial guru Warren Buffet recently admitted he was wrong to have overlooked Amazon and didn't have the financial smarts to buy Amazon. Even Warren Buffet admits there is room for improvements in his arsenal.
So...would the i3 warren buffet wannabes dare say he is so perfect he has no room for further improvements?

it is unimaginable that one cannot cannot learn from a 84 years old with decades of experience and drives a Roll Royce.
That is why, those still driving a Proton, those without lots of practical experience should listen more and talk less if they want the stock market to improve their lives substantially.
and one last thing.....those who know do, those who don't teach.
Self taught is the best form of education.

there is some thing very flawed with maths teacher from NZ when he only look at IRR and cannot see the huge absolute amounts of $$$$ in a US $ 2 billion project with IRR 12 % when accessing risk to reward decisions.
that is why it is not luck that 84 years old maverick drives Rolls Royce while maths teacher drives what?

calvin will continue to be stuck in Bjcorp, mui, perisai, kbunai, mp corp, mulpha, alam, bpuri, dutaland etc allchun chun holland call...
why? because his methodology is basically flawed.
Investors have to realise, business is alive, living, flexible, no limits.
FA and TA alone cannot capture all the opportunities available in the stock market.

It is my opinion that with Jaks and Sendai, businessman will be proven right. You and your maths cannot pakai one.
Time will prove me right or I shut off forever.
. Suffice to say, there are conservative projections and there are liberal projections and any thing in between....but the common sense approach is....what do you expect MD of Jaks to say to the press in Hanoi? and in their negotiations with the government? That the IRR is very high?
The proper way to approach stock market is know the bet...know what is the bet, why the bet, not necessary you will take the bet....but it is not luck that KYY drives rolls Royce and maths teacher drives what?

can maths teacher tell me....what is the approximate accounting annual profits of a US$ 2 billion project with 12% IRR...and the likely impact on Jaks? Don't forget, Jaks NTA itself is already $ 1.20.

It depends on reason for the bet, the risk tolerance and time horizon.
No ponzi scheme here....just caveat emptor.
Jaks IPP is progressing on schedule.....
and Sendai Q1 results have not yet reflected strong recoveries for 2017/2018...............
Furthermore, it is my opinion......anyone not as successful as KYY, not as old / experienced as KYY should listen more and talk less.
It is true KYY is not the most conventional investor in the world...but after following KYY for a year, I consider that a strength, a reason for his success .
I think both Jaks and Sendai will turn out good, but time and patience is needed.
