Lawman thank you for the good article on fire insurance.
the problem here is that LPI's fire insurance price is much higher than Great eastern. Public bank bundle LPI fire insurance into their mortgage and force borrowers to buy it at about 50% more expensive than market rate.
If bank negara allow borrowers to freely choose their fire insurer, then LPI could suffer?

Most of LPI profit comes from Fire insurance. Do you think this model is sustainable?
because their fire insurance is bundled with public bank mortgage, and sell at high mark up. If government start to regulate them, will LPI profit fall drastically?

dont worry, they wont pull out. Japan invade malaysia during ww2 for resources, now they can legally own a share of the economy via aeon. why would they exit?

Bunker = RM 6 b (i made a mistake earlier)
Bunker Net profit = 2% X 6b = 120m
Impact on Petgas Net profit = 120m/2b = 6% (not much)
Let's observe if transhipment can do well. Probably that's better because the volume is much higher

Petgas may partner Dialog, and use Pengerang for transhipment
https://www.hydrocarbonengineering.com/gas-processing/26112014/malaysia-boosting-domestic-gas-1691/
LNG trans-shipment: This is a highly likely option. While PLNG-2 is only providing regasification services for now, Petronas Gas stated that the joint venture could also offer such services to ‘other potential third party customers’.

you're right. the bunkering is not transshipment. So Petgas only pump fuel for the ships
the market will grow in 10X by 2027. The Sino US clash will result in more China ships choosing to bunker with Petgas, as China try to build up it's own non-US supply chain.
If Petgas really dominate the LNG bunkering market in Straits of melaka, then it's a huge deal. 30% of ships in the world pass through the strait.
https://www.alliedmarketresearch.com/lng-bunkering-market
Global LNG bunkering market size was valued at $0.38 billion in 2019, and is projected to reach $5.14 billion by 2027, growing at a CAGR of 45.2% from 2020 to 2027. LNG bunkering is the process of transferring LNG to a ship for its own consumption. The advantages of using LNG as a marine fuel in the shipping industry include less shipping emissions, lower operating & shipment costs, safety, non-toxic, and others. Stringent environmental regulation toward pollution caused by ship transportation is expected to be the primary growth factor in the LNG bunkering market

the trade war between US & China should benefit Petgas, because China will need to buy via a US friendly agent. Petronas should get the deal, and the market size is huge.

Do you have any idea on this?
I think this will be extremely profitable, because Petgas can do tranship for Qatar gas to China ships.
I guess this big fat pie was originally owned by singapore. but now China allow malaysia to share the pie.

obs, Petgas has added a new service
LNG Bunkering Vessel (LBV) service, which allows for ship-to-ship LNG transfer to the LBV as well as LNG break-bulking and reloading for smaller LNG vessels.

No wonder so many large solar companies invest in Penang
there are Jinko solar at bayan lepas, and Risen in Kulim

wsb, thanks for sharing. for 70% cap on foreign ownership, this has been a very long issue scaring away MNC. But I think Najib has scrapped it.
Many local owned companies are 100% sold for foreigners, like Sepang Aircraft maintenance is sold 100% to Airbus. Proton sold 50% to Geely.
Looks like that 70% is no longer enforced?

Nestle & Carls high price probably caused by money printing in EU. they print too much money, so those funds get 0% loans to buy Carls at 2% yield. Wait for Fed to raise rate, and hopefully these consumer stock will have a more friendly price. I hope to buy some of these

If you follow the investment amount declared by MITI, the amount of investment into Malaysia is insane. It runs into hundreds of billion USD, that's the largest amount probably in human history. All these injections aim to drive energy intensive industry like semicon, chemical plants, iron smelter, etc. Those will drive Petgas volume, as I think Petgas supply gas to the power plants.

obs, for preference share. I see that Sunway Pref pays about 5.5% dividend. that's not impressive, because the FD rate in bank is already about 3.5% in normal times. And the dividend yield of strong company like Petgas is close to Pref share. Do you know any solid companies paying higher rate?

observatory, thank you for sharing. Am i right to say, no matter how they adjust the rates, it has to return around 5% yield to shareholder? Else EPF can't pay out decent dividends to retirees
Please ignore about the climate thing. Wind & solar can't replace gas so quickly. Battery will get very expensive, if there's spike in energy storage demand. So gas is still important electric generator

Lawman thank you for sharing your experience.
the founder's age is also my main concern about buying into LPI & Public bank. they may be taken over by other shareholders which can't manage well.
Fire insurance can be extremely price sensitive, as we move into digital age. they could be bundled into Grab's / Lazada's online packages. LPI benefit currently from gov's ignorance, but don't think the situation will remain for long. Everyone eyeing the fat pie
I dislike also about LPI's focus on fire. If they have more diversified like life insurance, hospitalization, etc. At least they can buffer for shocks
