Yes agreed.During Peter Lynch's time the bull and bear market cycle is longer and fairly predictable.Now with savvy traders and funds with lots of cash coming in this will shorten bull and bear market cycles.
It would better to look at a shorter time frame for investment ie. 6 to 9 months.

do not time the market unless you are playing turnaround and u have edge on specific industry. hehe

long term investment has changed. we need to accept our risk tolerance.is it 6 month,1-year or 2 year time frame ? most of all know the industries. buy the shares only you understand their operations
