DJ and Nasdaq collapse , but FCPO overnight UP. FCPO May $7,100, Jun $6,848, Jul $6,477.
CPO will stay high at least until 2023 attributed to the following development :
1. No export of sunflower oil, wheat, barley etc from Ukraine as the war raging on and the Apr/May 2022 planting season will be missed.
2. Next planting season is Apr/may 2023 for harvest in July/Aug 2023. Uncertainty around.
3. Russia is bombing the railway connecting to Europe as it is used to deliver western weapon. No inland logistic capability to enable export .
4. Russia will permanently occupy southern ukraine and black sea . Ukraine has no acesss to shipping route.
5. Limited capability to boost production elsewhere due to shortage of fertilizers, wild weather swing etc.

And these are the reasons why Nasdaq and by proxy Dow Jones will crash

In March 2020 when USA down collapsed FED start printing Trillions of USD to flood the Market

many received free QE monies pumped them into frothy Tech stocks

As a result Cathy Wood Arkinvest shot up by 500% Outsized bloated performance

Fed also reduced interest to almost zero and Tech borrowed like free money to expand for future earnings only

the market went Gaga on "future" earnings as Tech P/E of 50/60 and some no P/E at all

All these went on merrily merrily until now

what happened?

Same high inflation is now in USA and Fed must stop free money to put out inflation fire

thus Nasdaq must collapse

Dow Jones, Nasdaq & world markets can slide down, but food such as cooking oils esp' palm oil is essential item in all households, families, industries (food or non-food such as cosmetics, bio-fuel, etc).

World demands for these oils are evergreen and Malaysia is fortunate to have this oil palm which we produce about 18.0M to 19.0M tons per year with a population of 33M to 35M.

What does this mean?

It means, we have enough for own consumption and enough for exports and thus not having oil palm disposal issue.

Keep oil palm listed co. shares (good ones) for your retirement plans.

Sri Lanka should have planted some oil palm instead of tea only but it is too late now.
Now some charity organizations are sending aids to them instead of cursing them for favouring the ESG lie.

Sri Lanka
Majority Sinhalese Buddhist
Significant minority Tamil Hindu
Government has mismanaged the economy over many years.
Political uncertainties, pandemic and its consequences (tourist trades, etc) and the recent Ukraine crisis and its consequences (high fuel prices, high food prices, high inflation, etc) added together create the perfect economic storm and crisis.

The government will probably collapsed to be replaced by another, but the ecconomic rebuilding is going to be difficult and prolong. As usual, the population of Sri Lanka will suffer.

Don't go overboard on plantation stocks.

Those who own oil palm plantations will know how wonderful the present high incomes are. Sure, some big plantations face labour shortages and the owners looked at the ripen fruits unharvested in many acres of their estates.

Unless the present price can be sustained forever, factor into your valuation a few years of good harvests and incomes, and discount these appropriately to arrive at a fair value for the business of the plantation stocks.

Robert Kuok speculated on sugar futures in his early years and was lucky. With the big wealth from this lucky break, he has built his financial empire.

Peter Lim was involved in the restructuring and listing of Wilmar. He invested big amount into this company (including its derivatives) and he was lucky again, becoming very rich. With his huge fortune, he continues to multiply his wealth over the years.

When preparation meets opportunity, the lucky person is the one who is well prepared to pounced on the opportunity.

After the short lived rubber gloves bull run

Investors are very sceptical of windfall profits that will last only for a short few months

I would like to offer a slightly different view.
First the plantation bull run started two months ago. Prices of many counters already doubled. Will it continue to double? Who knows.
At the same time, Nasdaq has undergone several rounds of price correction. In hindsight should have sold some when it was high in Dec 2021. But at current prices (below 2021 prices) more of a bargain than plantation stocks. Just my opinion.
It is fun to be part of the bull cycle. The glove bull run of 2020 was hard and fast. The tech bull run of 2021 was steadier, but has undergone major correction. How long will the plantation run bull last this time? Another 3 months, 6 months? Who knows.
To newbies, do your own research first. Who are you doing to blame when you kena burn? Ghostbusters? While there are several routes to prosperity, there are far more that can lead you to Holland. Want to visit Amsterdam? I got some tickets :)
