Certainly worth investing. I feel that the price has been stagnant due to irrational fear of how oil prices will affect this counter. But SCOMIEN is a construction and technology company that does not sell nor produce oil! If anything, lower oil prices should be positive for this counter as it spurs economic growth of developing countries which is where the monorail markets are.

Construction companies like MMC-Gamuda joint venture, Kimlun Corp Bhd, IJM Corp Bhd, WCT Engineering Bhd and Ahmad Zaki Resources Bhd, and IPO candidate Sunway Construction Sdn Bhd are expected to benefit from contract awards for the major projects identified in Budget 2015.

Quarterly financial report is out. Salient features:
a) As predicted, the company is improving its profitability from one quarter to the next. Last quarter posted maiden profit of rm42k and this current quarter rm235k profit. Cost optimization will continue to improve the profit margin of the company.Next quarter profit? Take a guess :)
b) Total orderbook is rm1.4 billion but practically half of it will only see revenue recognition in year 2015 as the newest Sao Paolo contract kicks in. A stronger end of year quarterly financial result is expected due to this.

WITH the construction of the first line of the ambitious but much-needed Klang Valley mass rapid transit in full swing, not many may be aware that this is just one part of the National Land Public Transport Master Plan, a blueprint for the transformation of Malaysias public transport system. The master plan involves an estimated capital outlay of a staggering RM180 billion. The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD), a regulatory body under the Prime Ministers Office, drew up the master plan and is charged with implementing it. Starting with the construction of MRT Line 1, the extension of the light rail transit (LRT) to Putra Heights in Selangor and the introduction of Go KL public bus service, SPAD certainly has a lot on its plate. There are a lot of things that we have to do to implement the master plan; we dont have the time to go out and get publicity, SPAD CEO Mohd Nur Ismal Mohamed Kamal tells The Edge half-jokingly. Ismal is not as much in the public eye as his counterparts in Prasarana Malaysia Bhd and Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd, companies under the Ministry of Finance tasked with developing the LRT and MRT lines respectively.

India, a major monorail market is set to benefit from the drop in oil prices tremendously. Bigger savings from lower oil will translate into better ability to accommodate growth and construction projects like monorail.

MUMBAI: Monorail operator Larsen & Toubro Scomi Engineering (LTSE) has been fined Rs 1 crore since the service started a year ago. The penalty was imposed for loss of service due to system-related failures, including problems with rakes.

The service was launched on February 2, 2014, on the 8.8km route between Chembur and Wadala depot.

A senior Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority ( MMRDA) official said, "We pay the operator Rs 85 lakh per month for running the service. If the desired number of services is not run due to some problem, we impose a penalty, which is deducted from the payment to the operator."

Since penalty is due to power failure or transformer-this is under L&T fault, nothing to do with the monorail technical failure under SCOMI ENG.One should watch out on pontential 400 replacement units of of bus coach by KTN sooner. This new prospect is a HUGE contract to SCOMI ENG

UNIT perkhidmatan medan minyak Scomi Energy Services Bhd, berjaya memperolehi kontrak bernilai US$71.4 juta (RM266.44 juta) bagi tempoh lima bulan pertama 2015.

Ini termasuk pasaran Oman dan Thailand yang masing-masing menyumbangkan sebanyak US$33 juta (RM123.14 juta).

Kontrak selebihnya dari Australia, Indonesia, Rusia dan Pakistan, kata Scomi Energy dalam satu kenyataan, hari ini.

"Kesemua kontrak berkenaan melibatkan pembekalan peralatan pengurusan sisa penggerudian dan perkhidmatan serta penyelesaian cecair penggerudian kepada pelanggan di Asia Barat, Asia Pasifik dan Eropah," kata kenyataan itu.

Presiden Unit Pasaran, Perkhidmatan Medan Minyak, Wan Ruzlan Iskandar Wan Salaidin, berkata syarikat itu kekal optimis bahawa tender lain turut positif khususnya di pasaran teras seperti Myanmar dan Indonesia.
