Sorry guys, I have a little question here about the transaction cost of shares trading, can any sifus here give advice?

For example if my brokerage fees is 0.7% (minimum rm40), clearing fees 0.03%, stamp duty rm1 for every rm1000 (maximum rm200)

Let's assume that I made the following purchase in 1 day:

Stock A: 10,000 shares x RM4.52 = RM45,200 (gross value)
Stock B: 10,000 shares x RM0.21 = RM2,100 (gross value)
Stock C: 5,000 shares x RM64 = RM320,000 (gross value)

So what is the total transaction fees payable for this investment?

METHOD 1:

Stock A: (RM45,200 x 0.7%) + (RM45,200 x 0.03%) + RM46 stamp duty
= RM316.40 + RM13.56 + RM46
= RM375.96

Stock B: (RM2,100 x 0.7%)+ (RM2,100 x 0.03%) + RM3 stamp duty
= RM40 (RM14.70 < min. RM40) + RM0.63 + RM3
= RM43.63

Stock C: (RM320,000 x 0.7%) + (RM320,000 x 0.03%) + RM200 stamp duty (max)
=RM2,240 + RM96 + RM200
=RM2,536

Total transaction fees payable = RM375.96 + RM43.63 + RM2,536
= RM2955.60 (round up from RM2955.59)

METHOD 2:

(Gross value of Stock A + B + C) x 0.7% = RM367,300

BROKERAGE FEES
(Gross value of Stock A + B + C) x 0.7% = RM2,571.10

CLEARING FEES
(Gross value of Stock A + B + C) x 0.03% = RM110.20 (round up from RM110.19)

STAMP DUTY
(Gross value of Stock A + B + C) / RM1000 = RM368 (round up from RM367.30, but maximum is RM200, so we calculate only RM200)

Total transaction fees payable = RM2,571.10 + RM110.20 + RM200 (max.)
= RM2,881.30

So which method is actually the real method?
Or there is another method used to calculate the transaction cost other than these 2 methods?

Please help! I am confused =/

hi blackjean ... method 1 :) ... but 0.7 brokerage is way too too high liAu ... normal 1 0.42 juga beh ho say liau ... 0.7 mana boleh ? pi buka lain broker la ... or cash upfront account in cimb only 0.0388 .. with sikit t & c nia ... just walk in la :)

Your Method 1 is correct.

Noted that your transaction cost is relatively high, better go look for a broking firm with lower brokerage.

Hi Tj and other sifus, mind if I ask a question here. Taking WZSATU as an example, i just browse through it's last quarter report and noticed that it's net asset per share is value at 73 cents. Does it mean it is currently overprice already? Or I'm reading it wrongly ( which highly possible). Hope sifus here can assist to explain abit. Thanks

hi blackjeanz ..

the stamp duty max charge of rm 200 is for per counter not combined of many counters :) .. example if u bought a counter tat cost u rm 300k then the stamp duty will charge u rm 200 instead of rm300 ..
but if u bought counter A rm 150 k and counter B rm 150k then the stamp duty will be rm 150 + rm 150 so stamp duty is rm300 ... ok ?
