You know, it's so funny how one word can offend indians so much! The word 'Kxlxing' can send them into hyperdrive!
But here's the thing! It's a racist word among indians! Not racist reference by malays or chinese malaysians!
It associated to lower caste like that pariah word! But funny thing is, pariah is not offensive word in Malaysia! It should be banned actually as it refers to the lowest caste, dalits!
The 'K' words became offensive or racist to indians because it refers to ancient culture of using this bell thingy on female legs! You know, everytime ancient indian women walks, they create this bell sound thingy that attract men attention!
So yeah, it's not that racist to be honest! It's just that some lunnies made a huge issue out of it and it became a new norm that 'K' is a racist word for indians!
So yeah, Mahathir often refers indians are 'K'! Only recently Mahathir stop using them! Given Mahathir himself is a mamak!
Anway, i bought this issue because, it's not malays or chinese who bought this 'k' word into existence! It originated from indians themselves and throw the blame on non indians which is actually very bad!
Whatever it is, it's not our problem! Unfortunately, we will have many more sensitive indian issues brought up as India poise to bypass US in coming decades! Then we will have this two elephants, India and China, so Malaysia will certainly be the poor grass in the middle!

Anway, one Bersatu leader make very sily remark against one indian badmintan player than is very insulting! It's not that the word 'K' that was insulting! But he said BAM pick a trash from estate to be badminton player than actually a racist thing!
But unfortunately, the ultra lunnies, made a huge outcry of the word 'K' instead!

india is just the name of a big ethnically diverse country, just like china

not the name of any one single specific ethnicity in particular

You missed the point.
The word in itself is just a word to denote something,
but the intent behind the word used is the key point.

All Indian view the word as a racist slur and degrading when it is use on them, yet using it within this context on purpose, knowing it is insulting to the other party, still used it publicly, are you surprise by this kind of response ?
Funny that a town in Perak used to be named as such....

The same word "babi", just a word referring to the animal, when someone call a Chinese or Indian that word, he probably do not give two hoots about it, but by doing that on a Malay, the response would be very different.
