KUALA LUMPUR: Datasonic Group Bhd (Datasonic) has announced strong results for the first half of the 2012 financial year, reporting RM16.06 million in profit after tax.

Datasonic recorded RM83.30 million turnover for the same period, with 23.06 sen net earnings per share based on the issued share capital of 69,626,004 shares at June 30, 2012.

These results were driven by the group's success in implementing several major government projects, which include the supply of the new MyKad with 100 per cent polycarbonate material, new security features, operating systems and chips to the National Registration Department.

"We've strong order bookings and we're confident that the group will continue to perform well in the second half of this year," said Tan Sri Hashim Mohd Ali, the Independent Non-Executive Chairman, in a statement today.

Meanwhile, Datasonic is expected to be listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia Securities Bhd on Sept 3, with the stock name "DSONIC" and stock code 5216. -- BERNAMA
