Sultan of Perak passes away

IPOH: Sultan of Perak Sultan Azlan Shah passed away about 1.30pm today.
He was the state's 34th ruler.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, in his official announcement carried live by national television and radio stations at 3.41pm, said Sultan Azlan's remains would be at the Balai Rong Seri Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar for dignitaries and the public to pay their respects.
Zambry who was choked with emotions while making the announcement, said Sultan Azlan who was 86 would be laid to rest at the Royal Mausoleum in Kuala Kangsar after Asar prayers tomorrow.
The Menteri Besar has ordered all state flags to be flown at half mast for 100 days and Jalur Gemilang for a week.
"During this period, all forms of entertainment, public gatherings and celebrations will be cancelled.
"As a sign of respect, tomorrow (Thursday) is declared a public holiday for Perak," he said.
