KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas Gas Bhd (PGB) has appointed Datuk Adif Zulkifli as its chairman, replacing Adnan Zainol Abidin, effective immediately.

PGB said Adnan's resignation was "due to top management mobility within Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) Group."

It noted that Adif was the executive vice president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the upstream business, "where he oversaw the strategic direction and operations in oil and gas exploration, production, and development across more than 20 countries, as well as carbon management."

"One of his notable achievements in this capacity was establishing carbon capture and storage as a new business stream, aligning with Petronas' energy transition strategy.

"Under his leadership, the upstream business achieved record-breaking performance, including producing over two million barrels of oil equivalent per day in Malaysia in 2024 and adding 1.76 billion barrels of oil equivalent in resources in 2023," the company said in a stock exchange filing.

Adif joined Petronas in 1993 as a reservoir engineer and has since held various leadership roles, including EVP and CEO of the gas and new energy business, senior vice president of development and production upstream business, and senior vice president of corporate strategy.

He is also an active member of the petro-technical community, having served as chairman of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Asia Pacific Regional Advisory Council and a member of the international advisory committee for Offshore Technology Conference Asia.

Adif holds a Master of Business Administration from Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, United States (US) and a degree in petroleum engineering from Colorado School of Mines, US.
