KUALA LUMPUR: The Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has received 114 million e-invoices from 9,000 taxpayers as of yesterday (Dec 26).
IRB Corporate Services Department director Noraini Mustafa said that the response has been very encouraging, particularly in Phase One, with some companies originally scheduled in Phases Two and Three voluntarily participating earlier than required.
"A total of 5,000 companies were involved in the first phase, which covered RM100 million in revenue. Companies originally scheduled for Phases Two and Three have also taken the opportunity to fulfil their responsibilities by using the e-invoice system ahead of schedule," she said.
Noraini said this when appearing as a guest on Bernama TV's Ruang Bicara programme, titled 'HASIL Mendidik untuk Kesedaran dan Tanggungjawab Bersama', yesterday.
She also noted that Phase Two of the e-invoice system will take effect on Jan 1, 2025, while Phase Three will commence on July 1, 2025.
According to Noraini, the IRB has implemented 200 tax literacy programmes nationwide, including initiatives such as HASiL Your Tax Buddy, Sahabat HASiL, and Business Entrepreneur Support & Training (BEST).
"HASiL Your Tax Buddy and the Sahabat HASiL are specifically designed for school and higher education students, while the BEST programme offers support services to entrepreneurs, guiding them on how to fulfil their responsibilities as taxpayers," she explained.
She added that all these programmes are categorised into three groups: prospective taxpayers, existing taxpayers, and out-of-network taxpayers.
"For prospective taxpayers, we have developed programmes targeting primary school, secondary school, and university students. For those outside the network, in addition to briefings, announcements are made via social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, X, and TikTok," she said.
Furthermore, Noraini highlighted that the IRB has carried out several tax compliance operations across the country this year.
These include operations such as Op Hidang; Op Borneo 1.0; Op Borneo 2.0; Op Gading; Op Zapin; Op Labuan; Op Borneo 2.0 Plus; Op Pantai Timur; Op Mega Corp; Op Metro; Op Melaka, and Op Negeri Sembilan.
She emphasised that through continuous efforts in tax education, the IRB aims to cultivate a more responsible and forward-thinking generation, one that understands the crucial role taxes play in building a more prosperous economy and society.
