Fake news, a term popularised by Donald Trump, raises an important existential question about the current status of journalism in society. The media urgently needs to regain its audience’s trust, by ensuring “fake news” does not undermine credible reporting. However, some media have arguably become active purveyors of untruths and half-truths.

In conjunction with World Press Freedom Day, Current Affairs explores how fake news is impacting journalism and analyses the Malaysian government’s bid to quash fake news, through its sebenarnya.my portal.
