KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 21): UMW Holdings Bhd’s automotive sales increased by 47% to 36,780 units for July 2023 from 24,983 units a year earlier, with both UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT) and its associate company Perusahaan Otomobil Kedua Sdn Bhd (Perodua) continuing to deliver vehicles amid encouraging outstanding bookings.

In a statement on Monday (Aug 21), the automotive group said UMWT saw its car sales up 26% with 8,349 against 6,637 units in July 2022, while year-to-date (YTD), UMWT registered 57,008 units — an 8% growth compared with the 52,548 units delivered in the corresponding period of 2022.

To further strengthen its order book, UMWT is offering special promotions, as well as the Toyota EZ Beli financing option for the purchase of selected Toyota models, said UMW.

Meanwhile, Perodua’s sales jumped 55% to 28,431 units, compared with 18,346 units a year earlier. This was attributed to the increase in production, supported by the improving supply chain.

It has also registered 173,121 units YTD, a 19% increase from 145,689 units in the same period last year. It is expected to continue fulfilling its outstanding bookings and targets to sell 314,000 units in 2023.

“We are pleased with the strong sales registered by both UMWT and Perodua in July 2023, as demand remains healthy,” said UMW Holdings Bhd president and group chief executive officer Datuk Seri Ahmad Fuaad Kenali.

“Year-to-date, both companies have continued to register higher sales compared with the same period of 2022. Moving forward, the group will continue to introduce competitive and exciting new models to meet its customers’ requirements.”

In the morning session on Monday, UMW shares fell two sen or 0.43% to RM4.59, with a market capitalisation of RM5.36 billion.
