KUALA LUMPUR (June 24): Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul has confirmed that he has received a notice from Bersatu regarding six lawmakers who have been stripped of their membership.

The notice sent by Bersatu chief whip Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee was received last Friday (June 21), Johari noted, adding that he will make a decision within 21 days as stipulated in the Federal Constitution.

"According to the law, I have 21 days to review the notice. I will work on it. Once I have all the information, I will inform you about what is happening. Be patient," Johari said when met by reporters at the Parliament building on Monday.

Previously, Ronald Kiandee reportedly submitted a notice to the Speaker's office concerning the unexpected vacancies involving six Bersatu lawmakers whose memberships had been terminated, in accordance with Article 49A of the Federal Constitution.

He urged the Speaker to declare the six parliamentary seats as vacant and subsequently inform the Election Commission to pave the way for by-elections.

The six Bersatu Members of Parliament (MPs), whose party memberships were revoked after declaring their support for the Unity Government, are Bukit Gantang MP Datuk Syed Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal, Jeli MP Zahari Kechik, Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, Tanjong Karang MP Datuk Zulkafperi Hanapi, Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman, and Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim.

Azizi also served as the Nenggiri assemblyman. Last Wednesday (June 19), the Kelantan State Assembly Speaker Datuk Mohd Amar Abdullah declared the Nenggiri state seat as vacant, following the receipt of Mohd Azizi's termination notification on June 13.

The Election Commission is set to meet on Friday (June 28) to address the Nenggiri by-election.
