KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 27): Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has announced the appointment of Madelena Mohamed as an assistant governor, effective Feb 1, 2025, to oversee its newly formed strategy and sustainability sector.
Madalena currently leads BNM’s sustainability unit, which will be part of the new sector alongside the governor’s office, legal department, and strategic communications department as well.
She joins six other assistant governors, namely: Mohamad Ali Iqbal Abdul Khalid (investment operations and financial market, and foreign exchange policy); Fraziali Ismail (monetary policy, economics and international surveillance); Dr Norhana Endut (regulation); Aznan Abdul Aziz (payments services oversight, financial conglomerates supervision, banking supervision, insurance and takaful supervision, risk specialist and technology supervision); Abd Rahman Abu Bakar (human capital); and Suhaimi Ali (financial development and innovation, Islamic finance, and financial inclusion).
Madelena Mohamed has been with BNM since 1993, during which she has held various leadership roles, including as a director of the Islamic Finance Department, Financial Surveillance Department, and Prudential Financial Policy Department. Most recently, she headed the Sustainability Unit.
Madelena is a graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science with a degree in Economics, specialising in Accounting and Finance, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder.
