Asian stock markets finished higher despite further losses in tech shares with Japan and Australia the biggest gainers. The local benchmark FBMKLCI (KLCI), however, bucked the regional trend, falling for the seventh consecutive session. The benchmark lost 4.28pts or 0.27% to end the day at 1,585.38. Most sectors ended down except for healthcare (+0.16%) and energy (+0.15%). Laggards were led by utilities (-1.45%), property (-1.19%) and industrial products (-1.16%). Trading volume rose to 5.23bn (up from 5.01bn on Monday) but trading value eased slightly to RM3.70bn (down from RM3.78bn previously). Market breadth stayed bearish as 838 decliners crushed 316 gainers.

The benchmark formed another black candle yesterday, its eleventh consecutive black candle. With the index now below the 50-day EMA and the support trend line drawn from the 1,446 low at the start of the year, the odds would favour the bears in the immediate term. Falling below yesterday’s low of 1,582 may see the benchmark fall to test the 1,565-1,575 support next. The psychological 1,600 is the immediate resistance followed by the downtrend line (1,611). NOTE: Our portfolio has reverted to risk-off mode this week.
