When parents aren't happy with a catalogue's idea of what a children's bedroom should look like, there's one place many turn for DIY inspiration: Pinterest.

Particularly during the pandemic, the social media platform has been a source of home improvement ideas for many, notably recipes as the company recently pointed out.

Packed full of gardening tips, cutesy decoration designs and practical DIY ideas, Pinterest is a deluge of creative project inspiration - so much so that things can get a little overwhelming.

Anyone regularly looking at the site's virtual pinboards will likely have noticed that an easy overview has been lacking.

But Pinterest now wants to improve this with a range of new features introduced to make it easier to stay on top of that massive collection of home improvement ideas you wanted to finish during the lockdown.

Take a look at the website now, and you'll notice you have the option to organise your pinboard by theme. Users are now also being shown suggested alternative names for folders.

Also new are automatic suggestions for projects. For example: Say you're planning a birthday party.

Once you click the "Remember" button on a pin you're interested in, the network will essentially hold your hand all the way and suggest pinboard folders and ideas for invitations, decorations, food, drinks and activities.

You'll also be able to track the progress of your project and archive the pinboard once the project is finished.

The notes function has been revised as well, and not only can it be used to record details, but also to create lists. Pins can also be attached to notes - for example, as a visual aid in a to-do list.
