Once upon a time in the 1990s, Canon cameras used to let you focus on an object simply by looking at it. But because the camera couldn't always detect exactly where you're eye was looking, this controversial feature soon disappeared again.

Now, the Canon EOS R3 is bringing back this polarizing feature, hated and loved by many veteran photographers. The company says this yet-to-be-released professional shooter will be given this feature under a new name: Eye Control.

This is how it works: When taking a photo, you set the focus simply by looking through the viewfinder at the desired area.

As a result, Canon says the latest EOS will bring more speed and intuitive use when focusing. Sports photographers, among others, should benefit from the high speed of focusing. The R3 also features automatic eye, head and body detection for the subject.

The professional aspirations of the mirrorless system camera from Canon's full-format series (R) are also reflected in the comparatively bulky, dust-and-splash-proof housing with an integrated handle for both landscape and portrait format.

Canon is also promising an impressive 30 fps in bursts with focus tracking. Canon has not yet given any details about the sensor, a launch date or price.
