A gold-plated video game console made for Great Britain’s royal monarch is up for sale for a princely sum.
Queen Elizabeth II’s 24K gold Nintendo Wii is currently listed on ebay for US$300,000 .
According to seller Donny Fillerup, the special motion-controlled home console was designed in 2009 by now-defunct hardware brand THQ.
He told CNN that the item was sent to Her Majesty as a marketing stunt but was rejected by her staff and returned to the company that eventually went out of business.
After the California-based video game company filed for bankruptcy, THQ’s hardware assets - including the gold Wii Fillerup acquired in 2017 - went to a private buyer.
Declining to tell the outlet how much he paid for the item, the 32-year Netherlands relative said experts have valued it at up to US$1mil .
As listed, the console works and is in generally good condition, with a little wear on the bottom of the Wii-mote.
Launched in 2006, the Wii console reportedly sold more than 101 million units and was discontinued in 2013.
