It’s a new way to go job hunting and one TikTok user is showing viewers just how to do it.

In a now-viral post, a TikToker named Tem (@tem.bv) is receiving major praise for showing viewers how to efficiently search for jobs through some simple Google search methods without using “middleman” sites such as LinkedIn and Indeed.

According to Yahoo, Tem’s video was a direct response to another user, named @m3ntallyillvirg0, who specifically asked for help finding jobs beyond the seemingly endless listings on LinkedIn.

“When I used to look for jobs, this is one thing I did,” Tem said during the video. “I would actually target the application website.”

Here’s how the TikToker worked his magic.

Using the Google search, Tem shows how to customise the search for listings on the actual sites that host job applications, such as Greenhouse and Lever.

According to Tem’s clip, you can search for listings on a specific site by going to Google and typing, site: (website name). You can also check multiple sites at once by adding a straight line (I) symbol between searches.

Within the clip, Tem then adds the job titles he’s looking for, inputting the words to search in parenthesis, separated by a straight line. Tem’s example is more like this: (engineer I developer). In that format, Tem will get only job listings with those exact words in the post. Using this method, his searches will take him only to the sites that host the job listings themselves.

Finally, Tem adds and removes keywords to his search, places the words he wants to include in quotation marks and places the words he wants to exclude between two dashes.

The search hack has been deemed “brilliant” by many, where TikTok users are all in agreeance, saying “this is how you search”.
