STAMFORD, Connecticut: A city man is being charged with voyeurism after he allegedly planted a camera in his ex-girlfriend’s bedroom and took naked photos of her without her consent, according to an arrest warrant.

Robert Bagalloo, 46, was arrested on Aug 23 on a single charge of felony voyeurism, a Class D felony punishable by up to five years in prison, a fine of up to US$5,000 , or both. 

The alleged incident was first reported to Stamford police on March 14 when a woman said she believed her ex had been secretly taking videos of her in her bedroom.

Investigator Frank Laccona wrote in an arrest warrant that the woman was watching television in her room one night when she noticed “two small lights” reflecting off her bedroom wall.

The woman told police that on closer inspection, she found a small camera hidden on a small shelf below her television and cable box, according to the warrant.

The woman told police that even after they stopped dating, Bagalloo would enter her room without permission, the warrant said. Other times, she claimed to have woken up from sleeping to find Bagalloo, who still rented a room in the same house, “standing in the doorway watching her”, the warrant said.

While Bagalloo denied taking video or photos of his ex, police later seized his phone as evidence. There, they found 17 photos that appeared to show the woman topless, the warrant said.

Bagalloo was held in lieu of US$100,000 following his arrest. He was arraigned at state Superior Court in Stamford on Wednesday, where Assistant State's Attorney Laurence Tamaccio asked Judge Gary White to double the bond.

Tamaccio argued that Bagalloo had violated probation, which he was on for a conviction in 2007 for second-degree sexual assault of a minor, and was a danger to the public.

White ultimately agreed and set Bagalloo’s bond at US$200,000 without prejudice, meaning the matter of the bond could be reconsidered in the future.

Bagalloo is next scheduled to appear in court on Sept 21
