Russia invaded Ukraine on 24 February. All NATO countries including US have been helping Ukraine with military weapons and finance to fight Russia. They have pledged to help Ukraine as long as it takes to defeat Russia.

Can Ukraine defeat Russia???

Since the war began, about 200 Ukrainians soldiers are killed every day. Up till now, about 5,000 civilians were killed, 6,200 wounded and 2.3 million refugees. About   23,000 soldiers were killed, 18,000 wounded and 7,000 missing.

At the meantime, US has indicated that US will help Taiwan if China invades Taiwan. Taiwan has already bought a significant number of military weapons from US to fight China.

Taiwan’s history:

Taiwan’s history with Japan predates the Second World War, 15 years before its annexation of Korea, with an account that many Taiwanese remember to this day. Before Taiwan was under Japanese colonial rule, it was under the administration of the Qing government, who colonized the island that was inhabited by the Taiwanese indigenous people, a collective term for the variety of groups that have lived on the island for thousands of years.

As early as 1683, the island was shaped by the increased migration of a Chinese population. There were settlements, uprisings, and changing but often contentious relationships between the indigenous peoples and the Chinese population. After the First Sino-Japanese War between 1894-1895, Taiwan was ceded by the Qing government to Japan, becoming a new colonial administration under Meiji-era Japan. This history of the Japanese occupation of Taiwan highlights the mechanisms of colonization and imperialism that have a profound effect on the people of Taiwan to this day.

The Japanese occupation of Taiwan was largely supposed to be based on two policies of “assimilation” and “equal treatment under one imperial view,” promising a vision of Taiwan as being akin to a home island of Japan. In practice, the Japanese killed thousands of Taiwanese who resisted colonial rule while collaborating with local elites to better secure their hegemony of the island. The colonial administration had a modernization program that expanded agriculture, building schools, and universities, building railways, expanding telegraph networks, police institutions, and introducing new entertainment such as motion pictures. Much of these infrastructures brought Taiwanese society into a modern era while also expanding exports of island resources such as rice and camphor, a material used for gunpowder, mainly for the benefit of the home islands of Japan. This investment in the life and economy of Taiwan was all for the benefit of Japanese industrialists, merchants, and the military, who needed railways, telephones, harbours, and many other networks to bring in military equipment and personnel while exporting Taiwanese goods.

While many Taiwanese were afforded some privileges due to being seen as modern imperial subjects, the Taiwanese indigenous people were designated as seiban “wild savages” who needed to be assimilated, and any resistance against the Japanese met with eradication and displacement. Known as Takasagozoku (Formosan Aborigines), they were thought to be lacking in economic sensibilities to live in “regularly administered territories” of Taiwan. These harsh and discriminatory practices lead many indigenous groups to flee or fight Japanese occupation. The Musha Incident in 1930 was the last prominent uprising against the Japanese in which the Seediq indigenous people attacked a Japanese village, and in retaliation, the Japanese military killed over six hundred Seediq. This led to a change in aboriginal policies where the Taiwanese indigenous people were now considered imperial subjects in order to placate any further anti-imperialist sentiment.

There was an increase of assimilation policies at the turn of the century of Taiwan, promoting Japanese culture, the Japanese language, and loyalty to the Emperor. By 1937 with the beginning of the war with China, throughout Taiwan, colonial efforts were made to change Taiwanese society into a purely Japanese one through incentives to the public while cracking down on Taiwanese cultural institutions. This included speaking Japanese, taking Japanese names, dressing in Japanese clothing, abandoning Chinese customs, and promoting loyalty to the Japanese Emperor. Towards the end of Japanese rule, over 70% of children in elementary schools were learning Japanese and Japanese customs. By 1941, the government encouraged Taiwanese men to serve in the Imperial Japanese military; many did volunteer or were conscripted. Between 1941-1945, two hundred thousand Taiwanese volunteered or were drafted into the military, with thirty thousand soldiers dying from various conflicts in China, Indonesia, the Philippines, Burma, Singapore, Borneo, and Okinawa. Around two thousand Taiwanese women were forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese military, and they were mostly young indigenous and Han Chinese women who were coerced by Japanese military personnel. As Ozaki Hotsuki, a Japanese journalist who was deeply critical of Imperial Japan, noted, the Taiwanese suffered despite being imperial subjects as they were, "...not to live as Japanese, but to die as Japanese", succinctly pointing out the hypocrisy of Japan's treatment of Taiwan.

Will China invade Taiwan???

Will Taiwan unify with China peacefully???

About a decade ago before Chairman Xi took power, talks of Taiwan and China for peaceful reunification was favorable! In fact pro unification was elected by taiwaneses!
Unfortunately, as usually, US through CIA agents mess things up, just like very countries in the world!
But i do believe Taiwan and China will unite again through peaceful means! We just hope that this will happen!

Heard from the older gen, the Japanese armies in Malaya can speak Chinese dialect, probably they were recruited from Taiwan. The Japanese soldiers plucked the mangosteen fruits and started eating without discarding the skin. That was quite bitter.

History is important. Each person/nation can learn from the History in respect of their mistakes especially. History will teach them to choose the right decisions/policies.

MRT in Spore started 30 years ago.

The MRT in KL only started in the recent years. The waiver of the fares fir 1 month will come to the end in few days time. Now, I can see that the passengers are very comfortable while travelling in the MRT. The travelling time is shorten, clean, less pollution & congestion on the road, save the car parking fees and petrol cost.

The mistake was, the nation had paid the attention on the automotive industry then so much so the resources were used away from the more important project.

True enough, even the automotive has not been profitable leaving to be taken over by another entity. History will prove what is right and what is wrong.

I enjoyed the free rides when travelling to meet my suppliers in Bukit Bintang.

@Tobby

"About a decade ago before Chairman Xi took power, talks of Taiwan and China for peaceful reunification was favorable!.."

That's not true. Since 1995, the people who identify as Taiwanese outnumbered those who identified as chinese. And it has grown even more since then. This shouldn't come as a surprise. Most of the people who identified as chinese were those who ran away from mainland in the 1950s and have passed away. The new generation of Taiwanese has only known Taiwan as independent democratic country, so they identify as Taiwanese and don't want reunification. Also, the CCP wants them to give up their lifestyle and serve the party. This is unacceptable to the Taiwanese, especially considering that Taiwanese have better living standards than the Chinese. Taiwan is a high income developed country, while China is only upper middle income and is still developing. The Taiwanese don't want to downgrade their life by joining the PRC. It makes absolutely no sense to them.

----

"In fact pro unification was elected by taiwaneses!"

The person elected was not pro-unification. In fact, in his inaugeral address, he said: "NO REUNIFICATION, no independence, and no war". In other words: maintain the current status quo, Taiwan won't disturb China and China shouldn't disturb Taiwan. Unfortunately, the PRC is hell bent on disturbing them by putting all kinds of trade retrictions and military intimdation to bully Taiwanese into submission. Maybe that's why the more pro-independence DPP party won the election twice in a row now. The Taiwanese were fed up with Xi Jinping's constant bullying and aggresive tactic against the Taiwanese. The US has nothing to do with it, they're against formal Taiwan independence too. For example, in the 2000s, the pro-independence DPP president at the time openly and publicly called for formal Taiwanese independence. You know who shut him up? The US, who warned him that they may not help defend Taiwan if China attacks because he was being too loud.

The KMT party (the party of the Taiwanese president's elected a decade ago) used to be pro-unification a long time ago. But unification as the REPUBLIC of CHINA (RoC), not the PRC. Under their terms of unification, the CCP would need to be disbanded. Anti-communist is written in their party charter. This is the party that fought the CCP during the civil war after all.

@Tobby

The Chinese do love eating dogs. They have an entire festival dedicated to eating dogs every June. The CCP tried to ban it in 2020, but failed. That's how much the chinese love eating dog, until dictator CCP also cannot stop them.

So whether the poodle belongs to Chinese or not, it is without doubt that all poodles are safer in America rather than China.

1. The issue about the unification of Taiwan back to China is a thorny one without doubt. Moreover, there are external parties/countries are willing to see to it that the matter should be made complicated further for China to handle.
2. These external forces even acted together as concerted effort to contain the expansion/advancement of China so the capability that inclusive of realizing the unification of Taiwan be thwarted. Taiwan was supplied with more advance weapons until the present days so to ward off any attack by China.
3. By human standard, once the threshold has been exceeded or crossed the "redlines", China would go against the diplomatic manner and to takeover Taiwan like Russian would take actions against Ukraine.
