Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (9988.HK)

Alibaba Group Holding’s research unit Damo Academy has launched an artificial intelligence (AI) large language model (LLM) tailored for southeast Asian languages, highlighting the company’s ambition to grow markets in the wider region.

The Southeast Asia LLM (SeaLLM) was pre-trained on Vietnamese, Indonesian, Thai, Malay, Khmer, Lao, Tagalog, and Burmese data sets, and has outperformed other open-source models in linguistic and safety tasks.

This is Alibaba’s first region-specific LLM, with Southeast Asia seen as an important growth market. For example, Alibaba’s Southeast Asia e-commerce platform Lazada is targeting US$100bn turnover by 2030 with 300m consumers in the region.

China Mobile Ltd (941.HK)

According to the Mobile Network Experience Report for Hong Kong published by Opensignal, a network performance analytics company, China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK) has retained its crown as the No.1 provider in 5G Download Speed and 5G Upload Speed.

Furthermore, CMHK has achieved No.1 in Overall Upload Speed Experience and outstanding performance in Overall Download Speed Experience, securing top positions in all four speed categories.

DRB-Hicom and Geely Holding Group Co. Ltd. have signed a JV agreement to develop the Automotive Hi-Tech Valley (AHTV) in Tanjong Malim, Perak in Malaysia. DRB-Hicom said in a statement that this follows the recent master collaboration agreement signed in October 2023, which had set forth the underlying principles, governance framework, and mutual commitment for the AHTV project.

According to the statement, AHTV will encompass extensive automotive and mobility solutions across the value chain, from a fullfledged high technology global research and development center to world-class automotive original equipment manufacturers and manufacturing clusters.
