Guan Eng: Dr M refused to commit to Pakatan manifesto after resigning

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 27 ― Interim prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had refused to continue to fulfill Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) pledges despite being urged on by DAP, its secretary-general Lim Guan Eng revealed today.
In a statement, the Bagan MP said Dr Mahathir told him so during a private meeting on Tuesday at the Prime Minister’s Office.
“The PH general election manifesto remained our guide to unite us and govern the nation under the leadership of PH prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad,” Lim said in a statement.
“At my meeting on February 25, 2020 in the Prime Minister’s Office, Tun refused to remain as PH prime minister and refused to commit to fulfil and deliver the PH general election manifesto.”
On Tuesday, several party leaders were seen entering the office to meet Dr Mahathir, including Lim who was formerly finance minister.
Others included PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
Lim added today that PH had won the mandate from the people in 2018 general election based on their manifesto pledges despite consisting of four parties including PKR, Amanah, DAP and Bersatu.
He said differences of opinion are not uncommon but all parties had agreed to adhere to the pledges.
“The four parties may have different ideology and aspirations, but we make common ground and are bound by the general election manifesto agreed to by all,” said Lim.
Yesterday, PH announced that it has nominated Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as its prime minister candidate, despite DAP and Amanah previously saying it will continue to support Dr Mahathir in the role.
Afterwards, DAP lawmakers said PH decided against a non-partisan “Mahathir government” as this would not be beholden to any party or coalition, effectively giving Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad free rein to do as he wanted.
The DAP statement said Dr Mahathir would not have to consult any party or coalition in filling his Cabinet, for instance, and could appoint PAS and Umno leaders as his ministers if he desired.

Looks like the certain section of the society are still very communal and feudalistic in their view. Is hard to change. When ringgit fall to RM5 / USD1, then business starts to close shop and then many ordinary poor folks start to lose job. Then they will learn their lesson. They don't care if Najib is corrupted as long as he is not gay. They don't really care much about corruption because the most important is that guy is not a gay.

There is HOPE for change to better communal relations, like our East Msians, when politicians here focus on efforts to build a better Msia for everyone , & be +ve role models, maybe need 1 or 2 generations, when the current oldies political taikos moved on.

There are practical people....and there are ideologues..........Pas is an islamic ideologue............Anwar and LKS are also ideologues. They call themselves democrats with democractic ideals...Anwar is likely just a hypocrite....while LKS is a life long oppositionist,,,probably that is his natural habitat. ...............................none of them are Deng Siew Peng............any cat will do........and cross the river while feeling the stones............and that............is the state of malaysian politics.................Dr M is both a patriot and a practical man...............alas people of lesser intelligence will mis understand Dr M............and even become cynics.............

Mahathir has always been the one who thinks he knows best. Running a country is not like running a company. There is no way you can not share power. When too much concentration power is at the top, corruption grows from below. There is no way, he can see it. He is making the same mistake that he made 20 years ago by concentrating power to the PM. Corruption will be rife under his power and will create a group of monsters like Najib, zahid, Muhiyiddin, and etc. It will pull the country backwards again. This time, Thailand and Vietnam will overtake Malaysia.

Thailand and Vietnam overtaking M'sia is a small thing. The worst thing to come is when Thailand builds the Kra Canal.
The idea of Kra Canal existed in the 1970s at the height of US economic n military power. LKY sought the help of the US not to fund n build the canal.
Now, the PRC has the expertise and funding to build the canal. It is a matter of "when". Thailand has not forgetten the US betrayal following the fall of Saigon in 1975.

Mahathir has always and always plan to recalcitrate on his deal. He was called a recalcitrant for a reason. He broke the honour to pass the PM post. The Bersatu and UMNO people are the same. The reason the Coronavirus spread so fast and far, because they silence the doctor who created the awareness among a few colleague. IF they have not done that, the virus would not do so much damage to China. So many small business, hotels, restaurant and normal workers is going down. No more business, no more jobs.

The Soviet Union followed US advice. What did they get ? Disintegration, US missile placed closer n closer to Russia. Putin spent 20 quiet years to rebuild Russia's military power. Russia is not communist, but gets US missile threat n sanctions.
LKY was the leading authority on China, having spent hundreds of hours with its leaders. I do not read too much into those "western" experts. LKY said democrary will come to China but not following the path of Soviet Union.
