KLANG: The main Pos Malaysia outlet in Klang was thronged by a crowd of Bangladesh nationals who were there to pick up their passports early Tuesday (Sept 14) morning.

The crowd did not heed calls to maintain physical distancing and the outlet's security staff could be seen trying their best to disperse the crowd in the 8.30am incident.

South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Shamsul Amar Ramli said the police station had received a call from the post office manager saying that a large group of foreigners had assembled outside the Jalan Stesen outlet.

"The situation got out of hand when the foreign nationals did not adhere to the stipulated standard operating procedure (SOP) and did not observe physical distancing," ACP Shamsul Amar said in a statement Tuesday.

He added that a 14-second video of the incident had been uploaded to Facebook.

According to ACP Shamsul Amar, an estimated 130 people had come to the post office to collect their passports as the Bangladesh High Commission had appointed Klang Pos Malaysia outlet as an agent where its nationals could collect their renewed passports.

"Policemen from the South Klang district police headquarters' SOP observation team led by Insp Mohd Shaipudin Mohamed went to the location and succeeded in controlling the situation," he added.

He said the team has also been put on duty to help control the crowd at the Klang Pos Malaysia outlet to prevent a repeat of the incident.
