KUALA LUMPUR: Pakatan Harapan (PH) will not hesitate to withdraw its Sungai Buloh parliamentary seat candidate Datuk R. Ramanan if there is evidence of corruption linked to him.
Its chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that any allegation must be substantiated with evidence.
"If there is evidence, bring it forward. I am seeing a trend of this issue being raised... if evidence is there then I will cancel (Ramanan's 'watikah')," he said while delivering a speech at Connexion Conference & Event Centre here today.
He said this when posed a question by a member of the audience on claims of the extraordinary wealth possessed by the PH candidate as per his asset declaration recently.
The former MIC man reportedly owns assets worth RM63.5 million, but had not provided a detailed breakdown of his assets besides having over RM23 million in cash, RM27 million in property, RM8.6 million in vehicles and jewellery worth RM4 million.
Anwar said the only fault the opposing party can pinpoint is the fact that Ramanan was formerly from MIC.
He said PH had done background checks on all its candidates with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the police Commercial Crime Investigation Department before presenting the them with the watikah.
"Before I signed the watikah, I needed to have a clear conscience that it would not affect PH. There are whispers about this (alleged corruption linked to Ramanan) here and there, but I will wait (to see if there is evidence)," he added.
The Sungai Buloh seat will see a seven-cornered fight. Besides Ramanan, among the other hopefuls are Khairy Jamaluddin from Barisan Nasional (BN) and Mohd Ghazali Md Hamin from Perikatan Nasional (PN).

You're a special kind of donkey, Anwar. We know you did this on purpose.
