KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 — Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that the Yang di-Pertuan Agong has requested for the coalition to be part of a unity government.
According to online news portal Malaysiakini, he said that this was conveyed to him during Agong’s meeting earlier today with BN representatives, including the coalition’s deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan and secretary-general Datuk Seri Zambry Abdul Kadir.
"Tuanku’s (Agong) decree was to form a unity government,” he was quoted as saying.
When asked whether BN will uphold its decision to be in the Opposition, he simply replied: "That is not Tuanku’s order”.
Earlier today, it was reported the grand old coalition trio alongside Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) had an audience with Agong at Istana Negara as the country’s political impasse continued.
After that, Istana Negara issued a statement calling all Malay Rulers for a meeting tomorrow at 10:30am which is expected to last three hours.
