KUALA LUMPUR: Former Klang member of Parliament Charles Santiago said Pakatan Harapan has more ground work to do following its defeat in the Padang Serai parliamentary seat election yesterday.

He said Perikatan Nasional's win in Padang Serai came at no surprise as it followed a similar electoral pattern in the country's northern region.

Charles said that it signalled the persuasive "green" wave, which he described as worrying.

"PH has lots more work to do on the ground to shift ground sentiments.

"One of the ways to mitigate the rise of political Islam is to manage the cost of living crisis that's facing the country.

"Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has already kickstarted this initiative but all cabinet ministers must also make peoples' agenda their priority," he said in a statement today.

In the 14th General Election (GE14) the seat was held by PH until last night, when PN cemented its dominance in Kedah with the Padang Seri win by a 16,260-vote majority.

PN's Azman Nasrudin won the six cornered fight by garnering 51,637 votes, while PH's Dr Mohamad Sofee Razak secured 35,377 votes.

GE every 2-3 years should be proposed? If not PM change more often?
