Internet cautious on China’s RM170 bil investment promises

PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to China was a success, and unlike the Saudi Arabia visit, there is little that the opponents can criticise with the good news of China’s promises to invest RM170 bil in Malaysia.

The DAP altogether posted a message on Facebook regarding the RM170 bil.

“Terkini: Malaysia raih komitmen pelaburan RM170 bil dari China, tertinggi dalam sejarah.”

The post said: Latest: Malaysia has secured an investment commitment of RM170 billion from China, the highest in history.

For once, without the elevated criticism from opponents of the Pakatan Harapan-led government, Facebook users showed gratitude to the government.

Nevertheless, user Sek Seng wrote:

He warned the government not to fall into the infamous ‘China debt trap’ in which countries like Sri Lanka is said to have fallen into.

He also said that China is not known for ‘technology transfer’ to countries where they invest and that is not going to empower the locals. The rest of his comment is clear.
