KUALA NERUS: Children of entrepreneurs under Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM) will enjoy more free tuition to encourage interest in Mathematics and Science subjects, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said the trend of students venturing into the fields has declined, making it important to address the issue now.

“We will add more (free tuition) courses for Mathematics and Science subjects.

“We will also need more funding; maybe AIM can work with the Education Ministry to figure out how we can further improve the education programme.”

Anwar was speaking at Sahabat Usahawan Madani AIM Carnival’s launch at a hotel here yesterday.

Earlier, AIM managing director Shamir Aziz said a total of RM1.2mil has been allocated for the free tuition programmes benefiting Year Five and Six pupils nationwide.

He said there are a total of 133 tuition centres and 197 teachers involved in the programme.

The event held at the Payang Scout Hotel here also broke four Malaysian Book of Records.

During the same event, the prime minister also reiterated that his unity government has been continuously protecting the Malays and Islam.

He added that it will be unfair that some individuals intend to topple the government, while it has been committed to safeguarding Islam.

“It’s not fair for some people to slander us, saying we have neglected Islam and the Malays,” Anwar said.

Also present at the event were Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick and Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.
