KUALA LUMPUR: MyEG Services Bhd's contract to renew foreign workers' permit for the Immigration Department Malaysia appears to be intact, according to a filing with Bursa Malaysia Securities in July 2023.

MyEG Services has been in the news following allegations by a member of parliament (MP) that the company was illegally collecting fees for renewal of foreign workers' permit, despite having its services suspended by the Immigration Department since February 2023.

MyEG's immigration services concession in fact, was scheduled to end on May 22 this year.

In a filing with the bourse to clarify news report on the matter, MyEG's board of directors said there is and has been no misrepresentation by MYEG in the services available on its online platform and that all services continue to be provided in accordance to the terms and conditions stipulated by the government of Malaysia.

"Furthermore, the board wishes to clarify that the statement made by the honorable Khoo Poay Tiong (Kota Melaka-Pakatan Harapan) is an opinion of his own," it said.

New Straits Times reached out to MyEG to clarify claims of failure to issue permits, but the company reserved its comments on the allegation.

According to a filing with the bourse in July, MyEG said the Ministry of Home Affairs had notified it vide a letter dated July 7, 2023 that the Ministry of Finance has approved for MyEG to be appointed as the collection agent for the government revenue and to extend its role as the provider of online services for the Immigration Department of Malaysia.

At the time, the company said the terms of the extension was being finalised pursuant to further discussion with the government. There have been no updates on the matter since then.

New Straits Times has reached out to the Ministry of Home Affairs to clarify the status of MyEG's concession agreement with the Immigration Department.

MyEG first bagged the immigration services contract from the government in January 2017, after it received a notice of acceptance by the Home Ministry of the contract specifically for foreign workers temporary pass online renewal for the Immigration Department.

The total value of the contract was RM553.85 million for the duration of five years, until May 22, 2020.

On May 24, 2020, the company received a contract extension confirmation, of which the duration was not finalised at the time for the same provision and others including vehicle registration electronic delivery, driver and vehicle licensing and payment of summon services.

According to a filing at the local bourse, two months after that, MyEG confirmed the tenure of the contract extension for Immigration related services for three years which would end in May 22, 2023.

Trading in MyEG's shares was halted for an hour yesterday (13/9) morning pending its clarification.

It was among the top 10 most actively traded stocks on the bourse yesterday, with some 41.58 million shares  changing hands. It closed nearly two per cent lower at 78 sen.
