KUALA LUMPUR: Putrajaya is considering a unique model for the proposed ombudsman to investigate public complaints against civil servants, says M. Kulasegaran.

“(This model) may combine the Public Complaints Bureau and the Enforcement Agency Integrity Commission (EAIC),” the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reforms) told the Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday (July 3).

The government has also agreed to hold holistic engagement sessions for three months to determine the mechanism of implementation, he added.

“This was agreed upon in the Cabinet meeting on June 12. Currently, (we are in) the process of appointing committee members from all agencies involved for the engagement sessions.

“This engagement is important for the views of all stakeholders to be considered in the process," he told Ahmad Tarmizi Sulaiman (PN-Sik), who asked about the latest developments in the proposed Ombudsman Act.

Last year, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reforms) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said had said the Bill would be sent to the Cabinet for approval.
