BERSATU information chief Datuk Razali Idris has raised concerns about the silence of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the police amid a growing number of opposition MPs declaring their support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Razali questioned the lack of response from these institutions despite reports of ongoing efforts to influence and offer inducements to Opposition MPs.

“Ongoing efforts to threaten and offer inducements to opposition MPs continue systematically.

“So far, no statements have been issued by MACC and the police on the reports lodged to investigate whether there was abuse of power and corruption, forcing several MPs to make statements supporting Anwar.”

Moreover, Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin had announced earlier this month that the party would file reports with both the police and MACC regarding the alleged inducements.

At the time, four Bersatu MPs had already pledged their support for the government, namely Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, Labuan MP Suhaili Abdul Rahman, Gua Musang MP Azizi Abu Naim and Jeli MP Zahari Kechik.

A fifth MP, Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal declared his support for the unity government yesterday (Nov 28).

The Bukit Gantang MP had previously expressed his intention to support Anwar and his government if development funds were allocated to his constituency. In response to this, Razali Idris expressed regret over Syed Hussin’s declaration, describing it as “rude” and “arrogant.”

Furthermore, Razali also endorsed the call made by Bersatu’s Bukit Gantang division chief Ahmad Man for Syed Hussin to resign from his post if he genuinely wanted to defend the interests of his constituents.

Ahmad labeled Syed Hussin’s support for Anwar as “sickening” and a betrayal of his mandate to Bersatu, Perikatan Nasional and the people.

“Once again, I challenge the Bukit Gantang MP – if you are a true man, step down without hiding behind (the loopholes of) the anti-party hopping act and promptly return the mandate to the people through a by-election,” he said. – Nov 29, 2023
