KOTA KINABALU: Sabah DAP has adopted several motions including to extend full support to the unity government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In proposing the motion for Sabah DAP annual convention today, state DAP secretary Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe said the party expresses confidence that under Anwar's leadership, Sabah will be provided with greater resources and support to address the state's issues.

"Sabah DAP calls on the federal or state Government to seriously address and take action on long-standing issues affecting the well-being of the people of Sabah, such as citizenship and undocumented immigrants (PTI), basic infrastructure problems, and others.

"Sabah DAP also urges the federal government to uphold and preserve religious freedom and maintain ethnic and religious diversity in Malaysia, as promised and enshrined in the Sabah Oath Stone, without yielding to religious extremists contrary to the principles of MA63," he said in a statement.

Phoong, who is also Luyang assemblyman, said the party was also dedicated to defending the rights of Sabah as enshrined in the Federal Constitution and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).

"DAP is of the view that the federal Government must expeditiously implement matters outlined in MA63, including the issue of the special 40 percent allocation."

He said DAP would continue to support the Sabah government led by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and advocate for it to continue governing the state until the end of its term.

As for the upcoming elections, Phoong said Sabah DAP wished to defend seats-Luyang, Likas, Kapayan, Tanjung Papat-won during the State Election 2020.

"The party is determined to continue growing, offering excellent services, and maintaining a progressive ideology for the people of Sabah in the upcoming elections.

"DAP Sabah calls upon and proposes to the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the DAP for a constitutional amendment to strengthen the position of the DAP Sabah State Committee in the constitution and party management.

"This includes granting autonomy and decision-making powers to the Sabah State Committee."
