PUTRAJAYA: Datuk Ramanan Ramakrishnan, the newly appointed deputy entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister, clocked in for his first day in office here yesterday.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced Ramanan's appointment to the post, which sees the latter taking over from K. Saraswathy, who now holds the unity deputy minister position.

Ramanan said he had been briefed on his ministry's achievements and agenda for 2023 and aspirations outlined for 2024, and was committed to continue implementing its ideas to create a holistic ecosystem for entrepreneurs.

Among the aspirations are increasing the participation of micro, small, and medium enterprises in high-impact industries to boost domestic supply chains and global value chains, as well as enhancing the capacity and capabilities of entrepreneurs to be more resilient and progressive.

Ramanan said he would hold discussions with the Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick to find ways to create a larger community of entrepreneurs.

Ramanan, who is Sungai Buloh member of parliament, was appointed as Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (Mitra) chairman by Anwar in April.

He said he would retain his position in Mitra.
