KUALA LUMPUR: In a clapback towards Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin said the investigation into "Tuns" should start with the former's children.

Shamsul, who is the Prime Minister's senior political secretary, said the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should also look into other cases of corruption allegedly involving the former prime minister, including the Perwaja Still, Bakun hydroelectric project, and the Port Klang Free Trade Zone (PKFZ), among others.

"The public is aware of the wealth of his children, and it is appropriate that @SPRMMalaysia initiates an investigation into the source of wealth if Dr Mahathir really wants an investigation into Tuns.

"We also need to re-investigate the misappropriation of funds and involving Perwaja Steel, the Bakun hydroelectric project, MISC Bhd, PKFZ, Maminco and other cases involving his children such as Kenchana Petroleum, and the wealth of his children and his grandchildren," he wrote on X today.

Dr Mahathir had said Tuns who could not explain their source of money should have their property seized.

He was calling out the unfairness in investigations on high-profile cases in a sarcasm-laden statement on X (formerly Twitter) yesterday, following the MACC's move to seize the Ilham Tower, a building owned by the family of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin.

Shamsul said Dr Mahathir's sarcastic remarks showed how "arrogant" he was.

"Everyone - including those with the title of Tun, is not above the law.

"Dr Mahathir has never been comfortable with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim since 1998.

"This is because Anwar, who was then the finance minister, refused to bail out companies owned by Dr Mahathir's children during the Asian economic crisis in 1997-1998, which led to Anwar's sacking and causing a political crisis until today," he added.
