A CONTROVERSIAL Pakatan Harapan (PH)-slant bogger has urged the Cabinet to declare PAS illegal to curb abuses by the Islamist party which arbitrarily challenges the faith of Muslims who are not its members or do not believe in its struggle.

Iswardy Morni who was once the Pro-PKR Sarawak chairman went on to propose to the Home Minister to invoke his power to make PAS unlawful under Section 5 of the Societies Act 1966 although its members are free to set up a new political party on condition that “Islam” is dropped from its name (as in Parti Islam Se-Malaysia).

“It’s fine so long as they refrain from using religion in their name … For me, putting Islam in the name of a political parties will tarnish the reputation of Islam for it gives the impression that Malays who are not with PAS are not genuine Muslims,” he proposed in his latest video clip.

“They can perhaps re-name the party as Parti Perjuangan Suci (literally Holy Struggle Party) so long as the word ‘Islam’ is dropped. They can even take a cue from Amanah (Parti Amanah Negara) which doesn’t have Islam in its name but its struggle is reflective of Islamic principles.”

“Even UMNO was once declared illegal in 1998 till the party has to come out with a new name, UMNO Baru.”

Elaborating further, Iswardy lamented that PAS has gone overboard by brandishing the word Islam in its name to accuse people who are not supportive of the party ss opposing Islam as in the case of Nik Elin Zurina Nik Abdul Rashid and her daughter Tengku Yasmin Nastasha Tengku Abdul Rahman who had in 2022 filed a constitutional challenge against 18 provisions under Kelantan’s shariah criminal enactment.

“Nobody here is opposing the Quran nor the hadith but only laws that are created by mankind as in the case of fatwas by ulama (Muslim scholars) which are subject to debate … In this regard, are we treating opinions from PAS as the divine truth (wahyu) which are not debatable?” questioned the lawyer who has since re-located in Peninsular Malaysia.

In all fairness, Iswardy has his fair share of controversy as fugitive blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin (RPK) has labelled him as “Hantu Gigi” (literally Tooth Ghost) for clamming that there was an attempt to smuggle RM750 mil cash into the country in a bid to buy over unity government MPs in order to topple Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s administration.

Recall that Iswardy had also courted controversy when he had had his membership in PKR suspended previously following a video clip on May 29, 2022 regarding the COVID-19 management which was deemed disrespecting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA).
