WITH the name of businessman Mokhzani Mahathir, son of former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, added to the investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), the internet is now abuzz with comments from netizens on how Dr Mahathir will handle the situation.

Mokhzani is being investigated under the MACC Act and the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLA). He is the second son of Dr Mahathir who is under investigation now.

Last week, the MACC summoned Mokhzani’s brother, Mirzan, to be served a notice of asset declaration under Section 36(1)(b) of the MACC Act 2009, which requires him to declare all the movable and immovable assets in his possession within 30 days.

Is it a witch hunt against Dr Mahathir’s family, or is it an act of justice from the government headed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, now declared the arch-enemy of the Dr Mahathir family after a brief love story from 2016 that ended abruptly in 2020?
