THE reconciliation of two ‘bitter’ rivals on the football field - one who is president of the Kedah Darul Aman FC and the other being owner of the Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) Football Club - have earned praises from netizens.

The fine moment was captured by Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor’s media officer Helmi Khalid as his boss courteously greeted Johor Regent Tynku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim during the Conference of Rulers meeting at Istana Negara on Wednesday (Feb 21).

Accompanied by the classical piano melody of Letter to Parents by Popolony, the TikTok video uploaded by Helmi has received 656,200 views with 40,000 likes and 1,3651 comments at the time of writing.

True to the spirit of sportsmanship, many netizens praised the duo for abiding by the football culture of “what happens in the football field ends on the football field”.

Inevitably, some diehard Sanusi fans went on to pray for his well-being with an eventual rise as a future Prime Minister (PM) of the country.

Obviously, with Sanusi being the leader of a PAS-ruled state, one cannot prevent political differences from creeping into the picture as some netizens reckoned that the video “would become an envy” to Pakatan Harapan (PH) supporters.

For the record, Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar had appointed Tunku Ismail who was previously the Johor crown prince as the Johor Regent on Jan 28.

The appointment which shall continue for the duration of Sultan Ibrahim’s reign as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong (YDPA) also entailed conferment of the title “His Royal Highness” to Tunku Ismail.

The 39-year-old Tunku Ismail is the eldest of six children of Sultan Ibrahim and the Johor Permaisuri Raja Zarith Sofiah Sultan Idris Shah.

Prior to his appointment today, Tunku Ismail had been appointed as Regent on several occasions, the most recent being on June 16, 2022, during a period when Sultan Ibrahim took a brief respite from his administrative duties. - Feb 24, 2024
