MUAR: It is unreasonable for the government to blame the Opposition for the fall of the ringgit when they are the ones in power, says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Perikatan Nasional chairman said the government should own up to its own failures instead of pointing fingers at others.

"They blame the Opposition for everything but are the government of the day. They have the responsibility, role, and power to manage the country.

"They have to bear the responsibility. Whatever failures or weakness comes from the government's own inability to manage the country," he said.

He said this during his Pagoh constituency Chinese New Year celebration at a temple here in Bukit Pasir on Friday (Feb 23).

Muhyiddin added that the lack of trust towards the government also caused the current economic situation.

"The issue is a lack of confidence and faith in the government and its leaders in managing the country and its economy.

"It has been a year since they have been in power, and the people can see and evaluate for themselves," he said.

Muhyiddin, who is also Parti Pribumi Bersatu (Bersatu) president, said this when asked to comment on Umno former Minister Salleh Said Keruak's statement.

Salleh reportedly said that the Opposition was also responsible for the fall of the ringgit and the current economic situation.

The Sabah assemblyman said this was because the Opposition continuously talked about taking down the government, which has affected investors' confidence.

On a separate matter, Muhyiddin also dismissed Bukit Gantang MP Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal's claims that several Bersatu MPs would be declaring their support to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"Bukit Gantang can say anything he wants, but this is our issue. He should not interfere.

"He has been an irresponsible party member who acted against our policy, and we have taken action against him," he said, adding that he has not heard anything on the matter.

Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz reportedly said several Bersatu MPs would leave the party during the Parliament sitting, which begins on Feb 26.

Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz, who is among six Bersatu MPs who had previously declared their support to Anwar, claims the MPs decided to leave as they are disappointed and feel underappreciated.
